Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., based in Abbeville, Alabama, is a manufacturer of lumber products. Founded in 1970, Great Southern Wood has 15 plants located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Texas.[1]
History
Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc. was founded in 1970 near Dothan in Abbeville, Alabama, and today is one of the largest producers of lumber in both the United States and the southeast United States. The company was founded by James W. "Jimmy" Rane and has grown from one facility in Abbeville to 15.
In 1976 the company opened its second lumber production facility in Mobile, Alabama.
