Grupo José de Mello

Grupo José de Mello is a family-based and family-controlled Portuguese shareholder group playing a diversified role in the economy. It is one of Portugal's biggest corporate groups. The company is named after its founder José Manuel de Mello (December 8, 1927 - September 16, 2009), the heir of an industrial conglomerate, Companhia União Fabril (CUF), which had been founded by his grandparent Alfredo da Silva.[1]

In addition to these business platforms the José de Mello Group is also involved in the financial sector, through a major strategic shareholding in Millennium bcp (Banco Comercial Português), Portugal's biggest private financial group. Brisa - Auto-estradas de Portugal, a company related with highway exploration and management also has strong José de Mello's shareholding ownership, as well as EFACEC, Portugal's leader in electromechanical equipment and devices.

In August 2011 José de Mello Group took part of the health tourism project, Hospital Choices, in UK. Being then a pioneer in this business in Portugal.
