Halcyon: Virtual is Real |
Halcyon is a science fiction television series scheduled for October 2016 on the SyFy network. It is billed as a "virtual reality series", where the series will have both broadcast content, and 3D/VR media to be experienced via devices like Google Cardboard or Oculus Rift. The series is made by production company Secret Location, directed by Benjamin Arfmann, and scheduled for an initial 15 episodes, 10 "short form" broadcast, 5 primarily interactive virtual reality. It stars Lisa Marcos as a detective using a VI implant to solve murders.[1]
Series details
The series takes place at a Virtual Reality company in 2058, called Halcyon, but will be a crime/murder mystery drama, with character Jules Dover (Lisa Marcos) as the detective of a "VR Crimes Unit".[2]
While there have been virtual reality "shows" that were simply shot in 360° and/or 3D, Halcyon is billed as actually including interaction between the user and "clues" for each murder mystery.[3]

This means that Halcyon’s VR experiences will be more than the standard 360 videos that many other immersive filmmakers utilize when crossing multiple mediums. Users will be able to “interact with clues” and take an active role in solving the mystery of the show while being guided by voiceover performances by the show’s principal actors, Lisa Marcos, Harveen Sandhu, and Cody Ray Thompson.
