Hanggao Observatory
Hanggao Astronomical Observatory (Chinese: 杭高天文台, abbreviated HGAO, or HGOB in the past), is an amateur astronomy organization in Hangzhou, China. It was founded in 2001 on the basis of the amateur astronomy group of Hangzhou High School.
Hanggao Astronomical Observatory has organized members to participate in the "Expedition of Solar Eclipse" in Gongpoquan, Gansun in August 2008, and has also made several observations, such as the transit of Venus on 8 June 2004 and the solar eclipse on 22 July 2009. It is a famous students' amateur astronomy organization in China.
Observatories and stations
- Headquarters: Located in Hangzhou High School, Hangzhou, China. The record of sunspots and the observation of chromosphere (H-Alpha) are mainly done there. Station Code HGHG.
- Tianhuangping Observation Base: Located in Anji County, Zhejiang, China. Movable-equipment-based optical observations are mainly performed there. Station Code HGTHP.
- Remote Experimental Telescope (RET): Located in Tianhuangping Observation Base，28 cm of aperture.
- Qianjiang Observatory/Planetarium (under planning): Located in Hangzhou High School's new campus near Qiantang River. A 1-meter radio telescope and a space theatre are planned to be constructed there.
- Hangzhou-Aksu Cooperative Observatory: Located in No.3 High School of Aksu，Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 28 cm of aperture. Station Code HGXnR.
