Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross

Hans-Joachim Hunger (born 8 March 1921) was a highly decorated Oberleutnant of the Reserves in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Hunger was captured by Soviet troops at the end of the war and was held until 1949. He later joined the Bundeswehr in 1956 and retired in 1980 as an Oberst.
