Harry Paul Gauss (29 September 1952 in Stuttgart, West Germany 31 October 2009 in London, Ontario) was a German-Canadian football Coach / General Manager.

Early life

The Gauss family, with father Markus and mother Magdalene migrated with Harry and brother Reinhart from Stuttgart, Germany to Canada in 1958.[1] Gauss was raised in Ontario following a short stay in Montreal and Winnipeg. His sister Linda was born in Canada.[2]

Coaching career

He was the founder of London City Soccer Club, which was established alongside his Father on Valentine's Day in 1973.[3] In 2007, he stepped a side from his active managing career to concentrate on his health and turned the club over to his son Ryan.[4]

Personal life

Gauss was married to his wife Kathleen for over 30 years. The couple had three sons; Paul, Sean and Ryan.[5]

Death

On 31 October 2009 Gauss lost a three-year battle with brain cancer after being diagnosed with the disease, and undergoing a 12-hour operation, a week before Christmas in 2006.[6] The Canadian Soccer League honoured him by establishing The Harry Paul Gauss Award for the person within the league who [7] in the season past demonstrated ‘exemplary support, commitment and allegiance’.[8]
