Hazel McCallion Senior Public School is a middle school located in Streetsville, Mississauga. The school was opened in 1991 to accommodate students from Willow Way Public School and Whitehorn Public School. Hazel McCallion public school is named after the former mayor of Mississauga, Hazel McCallion. The school teaches both English and French Immersion students.
Brad Boyes, a hockey player with the New York Islanders, attended Hazel McCallion Public School. Gurleen, a famous sleeper graduated from Hazel McCallion Public School.They call themselves the Hazel Hurricanes and are divided into 6 house leagues: Typhoons, Monsoons, Cyclones, Twisters, Tornadoes, and Blizzards. Upon entry in Hazel McCallion the student is assigned a house and they remain with that house up to grade 8 and/or their last day at Hazel McCallion. Up till their departure from Hazel McCallion, they play sports and join sports clubs with the people in their house. Each house is assigned at least 4 house league captains. The captains are responsible and actively involved grade 8 students.
Athletics
Hazel McCallion Senior Public School hosts many athletic teams and clubs for their students. They have competitive sports teams that competes in the South Peel District, including flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, slo-pitch, track and field, cross country, and ice hockey. They also host intramurals with each individual House League competing against one another in floor hockey, volleyball, bordenball, and soccer. Hazel McCallion Senior Public School also hosts class championships in indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, and flag football. There are also individual competitions, such as badminton, tennis, table tennis, racquetball, and the basketball shoot-a-thon. There are also non-competitive clubs throughout the year, including aerobics, cricket, mountain biking, and the running club.[1] At the end of each year, Hazel McCallion Senior Public School also hosts a McCallion Olympics, which each class gets to compete in, as well as a Special Olympics for the Special Needs students.[2] The McCallion Olympics is played so that every grade goes up against each other, so it's class against class within each grade.
