In 2013, Young received funding through the Atlantic Film Cooperative's Film5 program to make her short, Green, with producer Brittany Amos.
In 2014, Young wrote, directed, and shot the film Howard and Jean in her hometown. Young was the sole crew member. The film stars her mother and her mother's dog as the title characters. It was so far accepted into the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival, the Atlantic Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2014.
