Hennadiy Korban (Ukrainian: Геннадій Олегович Корбан) (born May 24, 1970 in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian businessman, patron of the Jewish community, collector of modern and contemporary art and politician.
On 31 October 2015, Korban was arrested and suspected to be head of organized crime group.[3][4][5][6]
Biography
Hennadiy Korban was born on May 24, 1970, in Dnipropetrovsk in a family of jewish engineers.
In 1997, he graduated from the National Mining University of Ukraine, as "economist".
In the period of 1990–91, after his discharge from the Army, Korban worked as a broker on the Moscow Stock Exchange "Center Alliance", Russian Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange.
In 1992, Korban founded the brokerage office "Ukraine" in Dnipropetrovsk.
In 1994, Korban founded the OJSC IC "Slavutych Capital". Since 2001 he had been a Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the OJSC IC "Slavutych Capital", that was later abolished.
From 2001 to 2010, he was a Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Southern Mining.[7]
In 2005, Korban became a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrainian oil and gas producer company Ukrnafta, which owns more than 86% of oil, 28% of condensate and 16% of gas of the total production of hydrocarbons in Ukraine.
Since 2009, he is a member of the Supervisory Board of the company Ukrtatnafta.[8]
In 2011, he resigned from the Supervisory Board of "Ukrnafta" and the Supervisory Board of "Ukrtatnafta".
Currently Hennadiy Korban invests in hospitality and commercial office properties. In particular, in September 2013, Hennadiy Korban owned LLC "Budinvest" signed a letter of intent with an international hotel operator InterContinental Hotels Group on the development of network brands in Kiev - Hotel Indigo and Staybridge Suits. Korban’s company will manage those objects, the amount of investment in the construction will be $30–40 million.[9]
Hennadiy Korban is an expert in the field of exchanging trade. №1 specialist in Ukraine in the sphere of "mergers and acquisitions".
In 2013, Forbes-Ukraine magazine estimated the financial standing of Korban in $153 million.[1]
Hennadiy Korban is a member of the Dnipropetrovsk Jewish community[10] Board of Trustees, the patron of the Kryvyi Rih Jewish community.[11] Korban strongly supports the revival and development of Jewish life in Kryvyi Rih. He financed the construction of the kindergarten "Beit Alon Ganey Korban" and a sports complex for children.[12][13]
Political career
Korban was deputy governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast from 2 March 2014[14] till 24 March 2015.[15][16] He was appointed and resigned the same dates as former Governor of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Ihor Kolomoyskyi.[15][16]
Korban is head of the party Ukrop political council.[17] This party was founded on 18 June 2015.[18]
Korban took part in the 26 July 2015 parliamentary by-election in constituency 205 located in Chernihiv for the party UKROP.[19] He lost these elections to Serhiy Berezenko of Petro Poroshenko Bloc (who won with 35.90% of the vote).[19] Korban took second place with 14.76%.[19] During the run-up to these elections Korban and Berezenko were repeatedly accused of bribing voters, the use of black PR and other violations (of the electoral legislation).[20]

Korban was the UKROP candidate for Mayor of Kiev in the October 2015 Kiev local elections.[2] But he did not make it to the second round of the mayoral election.[21]
On 31 October 2015, Korban was arrested and suspected to be head of organized crime group.[3][4][5][6] Early March 2016 the court granted him permission to travel to Israel for treatment at Tel Aviv Medical Center where he soon started receiving treatment.[22] Korban is not a member of UKROP anymore.[23]
Collecting
Hennadiy Korban is a collector of modern and contemporary art. In his collection there are works of Gustav Klimt, Damien Hirst, Egon Schiele, Alexej von Jawlensky, Tamara de Lempicka, Takashi Murakami, Andreas Gursky, Yayoi Kusama, Banksy and others.[24]
