Hollon Richardson

Hollon Richardson (December 25, 1835 – December 24, 1916) was a lieutenant colonel in the Union Army during the American Civil War who was nominated and confirmed for appointment to the grade of brevet brigadier general in 1866.

Biography

Richardson was born on Christmas of 1835.[1] He died on Christmas Eve of 1916 in Seattle, Washington.

Career

Richardson joined the Union Army as first lieutenant of the 7th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 16, 1861.[2] He served on the staff of Brigadier General Solomon Meredith and took part in the Battle of Gettysburg. Richardson was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 17, 1864 and assumed command of the 7th Wisconsin Infantry.[2] Richardson was mustered out of the volunteers on July 3, 1865.[2] He received an appointment as brevet colonel to rank from March 13, 1865, preliminary to his appointment as a brevet brigadier general of volunteers.[2] On January 13, 1866, President Andrew Johnson nominated Richardson for appointment to the grade of brevet brigadier general of volunteers to rank from March 13, 1865, and the United States Senate confirmed the appointment on March 12, 1866.[3]
