Iluppaiyur, Virudhunagar district
Iluppaiyur (Tamil: இலுப்பையூர்) is a panchayat and village in Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu, India. The name Iluppaiyur is derived from "Iluppai tree". People of the Nadar and Chettiar caste live in the village. The Nadars founded a sangam to ruled this village and manage the school. Nadars provided land to construct the government schools and library and also Nadar sangam manage the school. The name as NKV SALA(Nadar Kshathriya Vidhya Sala)
The economy is based on agriculture. The Gundaru, a tributary of the Vaigai River, flows through Iluppaiyur, but most of the year it is dry. Water comes only during floods.
Temples and festivals
Shri Pongu Mari Amman, Shri Kamachi Amman, Shri Kali Amman and Perumal Temple are near the river. Nadar temples include Shri Pongu Mari Amman Kovil and Shri Kali Amman Kovil. The Chediyar temple is Shri Kamachi Amman Temple.
Panguni Pongal is one of the most popular festivals of Iluppaiyur. This festival falls in April every year. Pongal festival lasts for five days. Many of the villager have moved to the cities, but return to celebrate the festival in their mother village.
