Indus World School

Indus World School (IWS) is a chain of coeducational, K-12 schools promoted by the Nalanda Foundation. The first school was started in 2005 at Hyderabad, India and the second one in 2006 at Indore. The school chain has grown to eleven in 2010. Indus World Schools are at Gurgaon in the NCR, Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Bhiwani in Haryana, Raipur, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, and Jalgaon in Maharashtra. New Indus World Schools are expected to open at Hassan in Karnataka, Dharuhera in Haryana and a second school at Hyderabad.[1]

The schools are located on campuses of 2 to 5 acres (20,000 m2). The junior school (up through Standard II) is called Ananda. Schools with classes above Standard II to VIII are called 'Jigyasa' and classes from IX and X are called Sadhana.

School philosophy

The Indus World School was established by IIT and IIM alumni R. Satya Narayanan, Gautam Puri, Sujit Bhattacharyya, R. Srinivasan, D. Vijay Kumar and Shiv Kumar who wished to create "a place of learning with a difference".

The aim of this school, according to Satya Narayanan R, founder and chairman of Career Launcher India Limited, is that students must love to come to school and that school must connect to the natural careers of the child by making the child realize his/her natural potential during the school years. Satya Narayanan argued that, "Students go for tuitions because they do not get proper coaching at their schools/colleges. Our school will, therefore, restrict students from taking tuition and if a student underperforms or is not satisfied with the teaching procedure, the parents can question the school teachers themselves."

Subjects

Students at IWS are taught the key subjects prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Sports

Till class VI, all students play at least three sports. After class VI, students pick up the sport they enjoy the most. Some of the sports at IWS are cricket, tennis, basketball, swimming, football, athletics, and badminton.

In class IX, students who show promise in a sport graduate to sports academies. These are residential academies where the students can hone their skills under the guidance of coaches.

Other activities

The IWS curriculum includes music, art, craft and dance.

Technology

All IWS buildings to an extent are Wi-Fi enabled and VoIP will be used for teacher training.
