Islam Issa is a British scholar and award-winning author.[1] Issa has been described by The Guardian as a "football analyst, academic, and players’ agent".[2] He is Lecturer in the School of English at Birmingham City University.[3]
Career
In 2012, according to The Observer, Issa disclosed that two Egyptian soccer stars believed that the Port Said Stadium riot was planned.[4]
In 2016, Issa's research into World War I revealed that “at least 885,000 Muslims were recruited by the Allies”,[5] with the Discovery Channel noting that “Issa more than doubled the previously estimated figure of 400,000 soldiers after trawling through thousands of personal letters, historic archives, regimental diaries and census reports”.[6] The findings came as he was curating the “first exhibition devoted to the Islamic contribution to World War I”.[7]
Issa's public speeches include a TEDx talk with the title “How not to be ignorant”[8] and a talk on behalf of the British Embassy at the International Arab Film Festival.[9]
