Jake Hauswirth (born February 16, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey player who is currently playing for the Louisiana IceGators in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).

Playing career

On May 26, 2009, Hauswirth was signed as a free agent by the Washington Capitals after completing his junior career with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League.[1] In his first professional season in 2009–10, Hauswirth was assigned to Capitals ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays.

On February 28, 2011, Hauswirth was traded by the Capitals, along with a third round pick to the Florida Panthers for Dennis Wideman.[2] He was then transferred to the Panthers ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones.

On December 7, 2011, Hauswirth was traded to the Dallas Stars by Florida Panthers along with a 5th-round pick in the 2012 draft for Krys Barch and a 6th-round pick in the same draft.[3] He was then reassigned to The Stars AHL affiliate Texas Stars.[4]

Hauswirth signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL on August 5, 2013.[5] After only 1 game with the Komets in the 2013–14 season, he was released and then signed for a second stint with the Ontario Reign. Hauswirth played 27 games with the Reign for 5 points before he was traded to the Orlando Solar Bears on January 29, 2014.[6]

On September 3, 2014, Hauswirth continued his minor league career in agreeing to a one-year contract to return to the CHL with the Rapid City Rush.[7] Upon the disbandment of the CHL, Hauswirth re-signed with the Rush in transferring to the ECHL. After just 16 games with the Rush, Hauswirth left the club to play in the lower level Southern Professional Hockey League, with the Louisiana IceGators on December 12, 2014.

On August 11, 2015, Hauswirth re-signed with the Louisiana IceGators (SPHL) on a one-year deal as a free agent.[8] On October 22, 2015, the Louisiana Icegators announced Jake Hauswirth as the capatin of their team. Jake will replace retired captain Shawn McNeil, who had been capatin of the team for five seasons. [9]
