Jason Schappert is a CFII[1] and ATP[2] rated pilot, and author of 8 best selling aviation flight training books. Schappert was named AOPA's Top Collegiate Flight Instructor in 2008, Outstanding Flight Instructor of 2014 & 2015, has amassed over 8000 hours of in-flight instruction, and produces MzeroA.com's Online Ground School.[3][4]
Biography
Schappert began flying at age 12, and did his first solo flight at 16. He subsequently became a flight instructor, and earned all the ratings up to ATP, including private pilot certificate, instrument rating, and Commercial Pilot Certificate. Schappert currently flies a Cessna 172.
Before becoming acclaimed as a flight instructor, Schappert made headlines when in 2007, as an eighteen year old aviation student at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, he saved a drowning man from the icy water of Long Pond.[5][6] He received a Carnegie Medal[7] and was written into the congressional record.[8] Jason was named National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Top Collegiate Flight Instructor in 2008 and 2012.[9] In 2009 he created a program called Future Pilots Flight Academy for aviation-minded youth in conjunction with the Discovery Science Center.[10]
In 2010 Schappert teamed with Swiss flyer Vincent Lambercy flew a Cessna 150 on a round-trip Flight Across America from Daytona Beach, Florida to Catalina Island, California and back. Funds raised from the trip were used to promote general aviation.[11][12]
Jason and his team flew around the country in 2014 on the Good Pilot Tour, one of their many stops was at the Southeast Aviation Expo.[13]
He was named AOPA's Outstanding Flight Instructor of the year in 2014 & 2015. [14][15]
Producing the Flying Again Movie [16] featuring rusty pilots who have not flown anywhere from 2 to 30 years. This effort was then featured on the TV series The Aviators.
