Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer is a government medical college located in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. It was established in 1965. It provide medical education with MBBS and MS/MD degrees along with diploma in some medical subjects. It is one of the seven government medical colleges located in Rajasthan. Along with other government medical colleges in Rajasthan, the college is affiliated with Rajasthan University of Health Sciences and Medical Council of India. History
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College was established in 1965 with S. P. Wanchoo as the first Principal and Controller of the institute. It is named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.[1]
Admissions
There are 150 seats approved for MBBS and 88 seats for postgraduate course. Admissions are based upon a competitive premedical entrance examination which are NEET-UG for admission to MBBS and NEET-PG for admissions to postgraduate courses.[2] Entrance Examinations are conducted by the Medical Council of India. The examination is conducted for admission into all the medical colleges in India.[2] A 15% of seats are reserved for candidates, selected through national quota and a few seats reserved for the students coming from underprivileged communities and defense personnel, rest of the seats are filled by state quota.
Academics
For undergraduate courses, the duration of MBBS course is four and a half years of training with a year of compulsory internship. After the successful completion of the training and internship the M.B.B.S. degree certificate is awarded by the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences.
Postgraduate studies grant MD, MS or DM in various fields.
