James McCoy Smith (born November 4, 1946) is a former American football defensive back in the National Football League for the Washington Redskins. He played high school football at Kearny High School (San Diego, California), college football at the University of Oregon and was drafted in the first round (twelfth overall) of the 1968 NFL Draft. Career ended because of severe neck injury in rookie year.[1]
