John Dirne (born Amsterdam, Netherlands September 14, 1981), better known by his stage name John Christian, is a Dutch talented DJ, record producer and multi-instrumentalist.[1]
He has built a name for himself over the past 15 years within both the Electronic Dance Music scene and further afield, thanks to his stellar productions, which have been played and performed by some of the biggest names in the music industry. The past 12 months have seen him flourish as a recording artist in his own right as well.
As a student at the Dutch Academy of Music, he honed his production and musical skills fast. In the early days of his career, his first top 40 smash quickly led to a string of production engagements with the crème de la crème of both national and international music talent. He currently has over 2000 releases under his belt including over 400 single hit records and despite his young age enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful producers in Dutch music history. John also played a big part of Nicky Romero’s career as Nicky settled down in one of John’s studio’s to produce his unimaginable chain of smashing hits. Also Romero’s collaborations with international stars like David Guetta, Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Usher have taken place in that studio. At the end it was Nicky who encouraged John to start his own career.
John made the decision to forge his own career with the release of quality productions and remixes, all of which made their mark on the Electronic Dance Music scene and Beatport chart to booth – a decision that has seen his success gather momentum rapidly. Not only did heavyweights Avicii and Nicky Romero ask him to remix their track, ‘I could be the one’, but it also went straight into both the Beatport and Progressive House top 100 chart as well as getting over 6 million plays on SoundCloud – no mean feat for an artist that has only recently starting focusing on his own productions. His musical prowess has also recently caught the eye of Afrojack who has let the Dutch maestro loose on ‘The Spark’, which has resulted in a class remix from John Christian.
He went on releasing ‘Still the same man’ – a collaboration with Nicky Romero on Toolroom Records that spent several weeks flying high in the Beatport top 10. On top of this success was his remake of Tiësto’s track entitled ‘Flight 643’, which spent many weeks courting both the Beatport top 10 and the Progressive House top 100. Although many people think the original shouldn’t be touched, Christian wanted to break the mould and instead of having hoards of mad Tiesto fans giving him grief, he ended up getting the 2001 rework released on Tiësto’s own Musical Freedom imprint. The track also got radio airplay and was supported by some of the biggest names in the industry including Hardwell, Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond, W&W, David Guetta, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery and Blasterjaxx so was a resounding success. As a follow up he released ‘Gunshot’ on W&W’s imprint Mainstage Music, which have also reached the Beatport top100 and a collaboration with Shermanology released by Afrojack’s Wall Recordings, ‘Pinball’ that reached the electro-house top 20. Beside these, John Christian made the successful theme of 2014 for the Dutch festival Dreamfields called ‘Never Sleep’. During the spring of 2014 John Christian released ‘Next Level’, one of the most played tracks of the year at every big festival and club, rocking the main charts and Beatport Top10 for several weeks. This is the more known track -so far- from this producer.
John has recently created his own record label, Freeway Recordings, and currently working on an array of exciting projects involving music production master-classes on tour, his solo releases and tons of collaborations lined up. John is already introduced to the events side; he had a very successful appearance at the Protocol Recordings Reboot Party during the Miami Winter Music Conference, also played twice at The Daylight Beach Club in Las Vegas, Pacha Ibiza, BCM Mallorca and many more.
