Kelly Oxford (born November 29,1977) is a Canadian author, screenwriter, social media blogger and microblogger. Oxford initially gained recognition through her Twitter feed. She was named one of Time magazine's top 140 Twitter feeds of 2011[1] and 2012.[2]
Career
In 1996, Oxford dropped out of Mount Royal University after one semester.[3] She started "blogging" as a means of daily productivity and self-publishing. She later worked as a waitress and at a shoe store.[3]
In 2001, she became a full-time stay-at-home mother and began focusing on her online writing, and script writing. Oxford started an anonymous blog in 2002.[3] Oxford joined Twitter after it launched, and gained a large following.[4] She attracted the attention of celebrities including Diablo Cody and Roger Ebert and was eventually contacted by a number of agents.[4] She later sold a television script to CBS that was to be executive produced by Jessica Alba based on her life as a mother in Calgary.[4] She then wrote another pilot that was bought by NBC, but it was also never produced.[4] She moved to Los Angeles in 2012.[4]
In 2013, Oxford published a semi-autobiographical book, Everything Is Perfect When You're a Liar, which became a New York Times bestseller.[5]
In 2016, following a revelation about Donald Trump during the Presidential campaign, Oxford tweeted a request for women to "tweet me your first assaults" and within days received 27 million views and responses. The response was so large that it received coverage by the New York Times and other media.[6]
