University Hospital Kerry in Tralee is the third largest of seven acute hospitals in the Health Service Executive (HSE) South Region.[2] It serves as the main hospital for County Kerry and also serves the people of parts of north Cork and west Limerick, or a population of well over 150,000.

In a typical year, it treats over 18,500 inpatients and sees over 40,000 people in its outpatient clinics. In 2011 the Accident and Emergency Department saw over 34,000 people pass through it doors and almost 1,800 babies were born in the Maternity Department.

Also located within the hospital is a 46 bed geriatric unit that serves the need of the greater Tralee area.

When the hospital opened in 1984, it was known as Tralee General Hospital. Prior to that, Tralee was served by St. Catherine's Hospital which located nearby in Rathass on the grounds of what is now the Áras an Chontae Buildings or the HQ of Kerry County Council. Formerly known as Kerry General Hospital, it was renamed University Hospital Kerry in February 2016.
