Population concentration in the Punjab region tells that they are mostly inhabitants of Majha region of Punjab, especially, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Kotla Kahlwan Chak (village)#44 R.B Shahkot Nankana Sahib, Ferozepur and Amritsar.

There may be early known references of Kharas in old scriptures but the one that are famous are as follow:

Baba Deep Singh Shaheed (Punjabi: ਬਾਬਾ ਦੀਪਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ) was jatt Khaira by caste.^[5]
Natha Khaira (The headman of village Mirankot) and his son attained martyrdom in defence of Rai Singh (Son of Bhai Mehtab Singh).^[6]
