Lang is a surname of Germanic origin, closely related to Lange, Laing and Long, all of which mean "tall".
Independently of this, it is also a surname of Chinese origin (Chinese: 郎; pinyin: Láng).[nb 1]
The name Lang is also derived from the Italian origin surname Lango. This generation of Italians have been traced to Genoa, Italy referee to commonly as "the Tall Ones". During immigration, Italian immigrants dropped the "o" from their name to avoid harsh discrimination.
