Lieutenant General Lawrence Aboagye Okai (born 19 October 1934) is a former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. He is also a former member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) government led by General Acheampong.
Army career
Lawrence Okai rose in the Ghana army to the rank of Major General prior to his appointment as the Chief of the Defence Staff in December 1974.
Politics
After the formation of the SMC in replacement of the National Redemption Council government, Okai became a member of the ruling junta as head of the armed forces. He continued in this position till he was replaced by Lieutenant General Fred Akuffo in November 1976.
Retirement
Following his retirement from the army, he became active with the Veterans Association of Ghana, rising to become the Chairman of its National Council.
