Lee Mair (born 9 December 1980 in Aberdeen) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a central defender. Mair played for Dundee United, Aberdeen, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, Dumbarton and Stranraer, as well as having had a spell in the English League 1 with Stockport County.
Career
Mair spent most of his teenage years in the youth programme with Dundee. To gain valuable first team experience the player went on loan to East Fife in February 2001 and made his senior debut there against Peterhead. He remained with the Methil side until the end of that season by which time he had made thirteen first team appearances in the starting eleven and scored twice. season 2001–02 saw Mair loaned out again, this time to Falkirk and where he was a regular in the side, making twenty-five starts and one further appearance from the bench. He remained at Brockville until the latter part of the campaign when he returned to Dundee. The following term he made his first Dundee appearance against Hearts in the first game of the campaign and went on to complete a total of 34 games, including a Scottish Cup Final appearance against Rangers. Established as a first team regular, Mair completed 2003–04, missing only two games to bring his total appearances for the Dark Blues to 79. He left Dens Park at the end of that season to join Stockport County[1] where he turned out seventeen times.
After six months south of the border Mair joined United halfway through the 2004–05 season, enraging Dundee manager Jim Duffy, who believed Mair had already committed to a return to Dens Park and called it a "personal betrayal".[2] After just seven appearances for his new club Mair sustained a knee injury during a training session that ruled him out for the rest of the season. Mair regained fitness and started the opening match of the 2006–07 season against Falkirk, netting his first United goal in the 2–1 win over Rangers in early November, in Craig Levein's first match in charge.
At the start of the 2007–08 season, Mair left Dundee United and signed for Aberdeen. On 4 June 2009 it was reported that Mair had left Pittodrie for Paisley side St Mirren on a three-year contract, which will see him with the Buddies until the end of the 2011–12 season.[3] Mair played over 100 games for St Mirren before extending his contract for another two years in March 2012.[4]
Mair signed for Scottish Premiership club Partick Thistle on 17 January 2014 on an initial six-month deal, after he terminated his contract with St Mirren.[5] He made his debut for the club during a 1–1 draw with Kilmarnock, on 18 January 2014. Lee Mair scored his first goal for the Jags at Firhill on the 15th of March 2014 vs Hibernian with a header coming from a Kallum Higginbotham Free Kick. His contract was not extended beyond the end of season 2013/14.[6]
Mair signed for Dumbarton in July 2014.[7] He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Cowdenbeath in December 2014[8] He revealed he would not play for the club again in April 2015 after a contract dispute.[9] He officially left the club in May 2015.[10] After leaving Dumbarton, Mair signed as player/assistant manager with Scottish League One side Stranraer.[11] Mair retired at the end of the 2015–16 season after leaving Stranrear.
