Leonard James Ashton was the inaugural Bishop in Cyprus and the Gulf.[1] Born in 1915[2] and educated at Tyndale Hall, Bristol, he was ordained in 1943 and after a curacy at Cheadle was for nearly 30 years an RAF chaplain.[3] From 1974 until 1976, he was Assistant Bishop of Jerusalem prior to the re-organisation [4] that led to his elevation to the Episcopate. He dies in 2001 in Chesham.
