Truman Linden Chiles (March 22, 1933 – May 15, 2013) was an American character actor known for his recurring roles on three network television series: Steve Kirk on NBC's Convoy, Henry DeWitt on NBC's Banacek, and Paul Hunter on NBC's James at 15. Chiles made four guest appearances on CBS's Perry Mason; in three of the episodes he played the role of the defendant: Joe Davies in "The Case of the Jealous Journalist" (1961), Herbert Simms in "The Case of the Promoter's Pillbox" (1962), and Clyde Darrell in "The Case of the Telltale Tap" (1965). In his other appearance he played the role of murderer Vernon Elliot in the 1963 episode, "The Case of the Surplus Suitor".
Chiles was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He guest starred on other television series of the 1960s and 1970s, including Going My Way, The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, The Munsters (in the first episode. "Munster Masquerade", he played Tom Daly, Marilyn's boyfriend, who gets his parents to invite the Munsters to a costume party they're having), Barnaby Jones, Quincy, M.E., The Twilight Zone in the 1962 episode "Four O'Clock", The Virginian (1962 - 1971 TV series), in the 1964 episode "Big Image...Little Man", and in 1967 in The Fugitive TV Series Episode 109. In 1967 he starred in an episode of The Invaders called "Wall of Crystal", playing Robert Vincent, brother of star Roy Thinnes' character David Vincent. He also was a guest star in a 1967 episode of Mannix called "Turn Every Stone", and appeared in the 1977 miniseries Washington: Behind Closed Doors.
Linden Chiles died on May 15, 2013, after falling from the roof of his home in Topanga, California.[1]
