The Lisbon Navigators^[1][2] (Portuguese: Lisboa Navigators) are an American football team in Lisbon, Portugal, founded in April 2007. The Navigators compete in the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano.

History

The Lisbon Navigators were the second Portuguese-American Football team established after the Crusaders American Football Team was formed in 2005. The Navigators are composed of players rejected by the Crusaders.

After Lisbon played as the visiting team in the LNFA 2, the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano started playing in the second year. In their premiere season, the Navigators became the first American Football champions of Portugal. The Navigators beat the Paredes Lumberjacks in the first Portuguese American Football Cup.

In their second season, the Navigators claimed another LPFA title by defeating the Lumberjacks 37-27. This victory occurred in the second Portuguese American Football Cup (2011). The Navigators continued their streak in the third Portuguese American Football Cup, beating the Maximinos Warriors by 26-7 and winning the championship title for the third time.

Over the following three seasons, the Navigators continued to experience great success, defeating the Porto Mutts 20-12 in 2013 and snatching the next two Portuguese American Football Cups in 2014 and 2015. The Navigators have similarities with the Budapest Wolves of Hungary, the Bucharest Warriors of Romania, the Bratislava Monarchs of Slovakia, and the Ljubljana Silverhawks of Slovenia. The Navigators are consistently regarded as one of the strongest American Football Teams in Portugal.
