The Legion of Super Heroes is an American animated television series produced by Warner Bros. Animation that debuted in September 2006, based on the DC Comics characters the Legion of Super-Heroes. The series centers on the young Superman's adventures in the 31st century, fighting alongside the Legion, an organization of young superheroes. The show is produced by its main designer James Tucker (a co-producer of the Justice League Unlimited series) for the Kids' WB line on The CW network.

The Legion has returned from the 41st century with Kel-El, a genetically enhanced Superman clone. But Imperiex, the destroyer of galaxies, has reached the 31st century first—and unleashed all of the Legion's greatest enemies. When the other Legionnaires (Dream Girl, Shrinking Violet, Sun Boy, Blok, etc.) went to the Prison Planet to stop them, they each got defeated one by one and got locked into the prison cells themselves. To restore order and combat this near-invincible foe, the Legion will once again turn to the past for help in the form of an older, more mature Superman with far greater grasp of his powers.

As the Legion hunts down Grimbor the Chainsman, both Karate Kid and Chameleon Boy believe that they can be essential to the team, while the others worry that they're only putting themselves in harm's way.

In order to infiltrate Imperiex's ranks, the Legion decides to have Chameleon Boy take the form of the villain Persuader. However, in order to make the disguise complete, they must also reprogram Cham's mind so that he believes that he actually is Persuader. Things go terribly wrong when his Legion teammates are unable to make Chameleon Boy remember who he really is.

When Terra-Man, a villain from the future, arrives in the 31st century to hunt down a child, the Legion quickly acts to save the boy and keep him clear of Imperiex's obvious plot. However, after Imperiex proves to be the boy's protector, the Legion must uncover why.

Imperiex launches a full-scale assault against the Legion while Brainiac 5 deals with the ever increasing presence of his ancestor. Eventually Brainiac 1.0 takes control, defeats numerous Legionnaires including Superman and joins forces with Imperiex. But in the end Imperiex is killed and Brainiac 5 is now in command. Meanwhile, the Legion receives shocking news that Superman is presumed dead.

After overpowering the hivemind on his homeworld of Colu, Brainiac 1.0 intends to bring "order" to the universe through his descendant, converting interferences into data. The Legion holds a funeral for Superman and sends his tomb to the Sun. When it was discovered that he is actually alive, Superman X retrieves a Sun-powered Superman. Brainiac 5 managed to overpower his ancestor with the help of a merged Superman. In the process, Brainiac 5 becomes a pure organic being, resembling Brainiac 5.1 from the comics, as he discards his robotic armor, and soon leaves the Legion to cope with this new state and his recent actions. Before leaving to go back to the 41st century, which now has an altered timeline free of Imperiex or Brainiac, Superman X becomes a member of the Legion. But somewhere in space, Brainiac rebuilds some parts together becoming a new Brainiac. Saying that "Evil does not die... it evolves."
