List of Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit stations
Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, or SMART, is a commuter rail service in California's Sonoma and Marin counties. The main line was built by the Northwestern Pacific Railroad and received regular passenger service through the 1940s. After the decline in railway traffic in the post-WWII years, the line was eventually closed to all rail movement, only to be reopened to freight in the 2000s and passenger service in 2016 (expected).
Plans called for ten stations in the initial operating segment (IOS) with five more in a second phase. A further station is being planned in Novato's downtown district.[1]
SMART stations are sometimes located at historical depots, but do not utilize any pre-existing structures – high-floor platforms were built specifically for SMART service.
