List of Yggdra Union characters

The following is a list of characters that appear in Yggdra Union, its prequel Blaze Union, and its spinoff game Yggdra Unison. The games take place in the fictional world of Ancardia, on a large, unnamed continent that is home to a number of different countries. Yggdra Union and Yggdra Unison are set in the year 1490 MD, whereas the events of Blaze Union occur three years earlier, in 1487.^[1]

Royal Army

Yggdra Yuril Artwaltz (ユグドラ＝ユリル＝アルトワルツ, Yugudora Yuriru Arutowarutsu): Voiced by: Mai Nakahara

The protagonist of Yggdra Union, she is the youngest daughter of King Ordene and the heir to the throne of Fantasinia. After Castle Paltina is captured by Bronquia, she flees to the south and makes an alliance with Milanor, intending to free her country and get revenge for the deaths of her parents. At the outset of the game, Yggdra is rather naive, believing wholeheartedly that justice is on her side as long as she wields the Gran Centurio, the giant bastard sword that is her family's heirloom. However, the violent way she ends the civil wars in Embellia and Verlaine causes her to begin questioning herself.

Once the new Royal Army has retaken Paltina, Yggdra chases after Gulcasa, desiring to kill him for the sake of her revenge; the Imperial Army takes advantage of her recklessness to capture her. As their prisoner, she is brought to Lost Aries, where Gulcasa means to use her as Brongaa's receptacle, but is rescued by her troops before this can happen, causing Gulcasa to use himself as the sacrifice instead.

After these events, Yggdra is crowned queen of Fantasinia, and on the advice of a local fortuneteller and Pope Joachim, decides to preemptively invade Bronquia to stop them from launching a counterattack. Kylier warns her that her justice is not absolute and that these actions will cause harm, but Yggdra does not heed the warning. She discovers soon into the invasion that just like her own forces, the Imperial Army and Bronquian citizens are desperate to protect their beloved land and Emperor. By the time she sacks the capital city of Flarewerk, she has come to realize that she and Gulcasa are very similar people and that her choices may not have been correct, causing her great doubt and regret.

Upon the fall of Bronquia, Yggdra is confronted by Nessiah, who tells her the true history of the Gran Centurio; this causes the last of her illusions regarding justice to shatter, and after defeating Nessiah and meeting Marietta, she chooses to relinquish the Gran Centurio along with all military force and rule the world using only wisdom.

In Yggdra Unison, Yggdra is one of the protagonists, and her goals in that game are the same as those in the main work. She also has a cameo appearance in one of the alternate routes of Blaze Union, where she is able to reconcile with her older sister Aegina and adopts Gram Blaze into Fantasinia.

Yggdra is seventeen years old at the time of Yggdra Union and was born on June 2 in the year 1473 MD.^[2]^[3] She loves strawberries, especially Sweetberries, which Ordene had bred especially for her.^[4]^[5] She is about 160 cm tall and weighs 45 kg.^[6]^{[n 1]}

Milanor (ミラノ, Mirano): Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro

The leader of a band of thieves based in the wastelands of Norn at the south of the continent. Milanor is popular for his freewheeling lifestyle and general good nature, and the way that he preys on other thief bands rather than the poor. Despite his fair skin, Milanor is a member of the Vanir race, and is rumored to be a descendant of their royal family.^[7] He is implied to have been born in Lost Aries.

When his base is burned down by Luciana, Milanor and his forces attack the Imperial Army, and choose to ally with Yggdra in exchange for ownership of her castle. From this point on, he serves as her sidekick of sorts, and takes temporary command of the Royal Army in situations where Yggdra is unavailable to lead them, such as the time she is taken prisoner in Chapter 4.

Milanor is close friends with Kylier, and remains blithely unaware of the reasons behind her enmity toward Yggdra and desire to protect him. The good-natured bickering between the two and the severity of his reaction to her self-sacrifice imply that he might have had nascent feelings for her.

In Yggdra Unison, Milanor is one of the possible protagonists, and joins the world war in an attempt to free all countries from the nobility, as the oppression of the poor in Norn has led him to become an anarchist. His struggle is the subject of one of the game's audio dramas, where he is depicted as extremely unlucky and poor at managing the card system.

Milanor is 17 years old and about 168 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Kylier (キリエ, Kirie): Voiced by: Yui Sakakibara

Milanor's childhood friend, who was born and raised in Lost Aries. Like him, she is a member of the indigenous Vanir race. Kylier was orphaned as a young child and raised in an orphanage by a priest; as a young adult, she worked as a griffon breeder and trainer, and has been partnered with her personal steed and pet Al (Adlerauge Luftgrief) for the past three years.^[8] Kylier trusts only Milanor and Al, and although Milanor has not yet realized it, she has feelings for him.

As a member of a minority race oppressed by Fantasinia, Kylier feels intense resentment for Fantasinians in general, especially the rich; this causes her to be prejudiced against Yggdra. While she occasionally rescues the Royal Army from danger in order to protect Milanor, Milanor's loyalty to the army and to Yggdra causes Kylier to believe that he might be falling in love with the princess, which only makes her hate Yggdra more. As she gets to know and appreciate Yggdra as a person, Kylier struggles with her dislike, but ultimately is unable to reconcile with Yggdra due to the latter's choice to invade Bronquia.

Despite this, Kylier returns to save Milanor one last time, and sacrifices herself in a suicide attack to blow up the gate barring entry to Flarewerk. After the fall of Bronquia, her body is reconstructed by Nessiah, and she is deployed as one of his zombie soldiers against the Royal Army. At this time, she speaks of Nessiah's goal of revenge and her sympathy for his suffering, and explains that despite her initial hatred of Yggdra, she believed that Yggdra would be able to create a world without war.

Kylier is 17 years old and about 160 cm tall.^[2]^[6] Because of her love of griffons, she will not eat their meat. She is interested in the type of fine clothes that Yggdra wears.^[9]

Durant (デュラン, Dyuran): Voiced by: Atsushi Kisaichi

Captain and sole survivor of the original Royal Army's 3rd Cavalry, who were meant to serve as decoys to allow Yggdra to escape Paltina. Durant is rescued by Yggdra and Milanor after losing most of his men and being cornered by Eudy, and the three of them found the new Royal Army. Durant is extremely devoted to Yggdra, and serves as her tactical adviser throughout the game due to his experience as a leader and knowledge of politics. He believes very strongly in honor and chivalry, which sometimes causes conflict between him and other characters, especially Milanor, Elena, and Leon.

Durant is 24 years old and about 172 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Nietzsche (ニーチェ, Niiche): Voiced by: Ai Maeda

A young Undine and citizen of Embellia. Prior to the events of the game, her elder sister fell in love with a human and followed his instructions to steal the Transmigragem, the treasure which allows Undines to be reborn after dying; however, that human abandoned her after receiving the jewel. Realizing that she had been tricked into dooming her own race, Nietzsche's sister killed herself in remorse; being branded as a traitor to Undines despite having nothing to do with the theft, Nietzsche herself was exiled from Embellia. Seeing the civil war that resulted from loss of the Transmigragem, Nietzsche swore to recover it herself, and joins the Royal Army for that purpose.

Nietzsche enjoys treasure hunting and collecting strange objects. In Yggdra Unison, she is still attached to Embellia's forces, as the incident with the Transmigragem never occurs in that game. She is twelve years old and about 142 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Roswell Branthèse (ロズウェル・ブランテーゼ, Rozuweru Buranteeze): Voiced by: Hidehiko Kaneko

Head of the Branthèse (Black Rose) house of Verlaine, which rules the northeastern side of the country. While the more mature of the two lords of Verlaine, Roswell still has substantial pride and desires both the Ankhs for use in his magical research. He has a long-standing rivalry with Rosary which, spurred by the appearance of the Ankhs, causes violence between them and sparks the civil war in Verlaine. However, he and Rosary were originally good friends during their childhood.

Depending on the player's choice, Roswell is either killed to prevent civil war or joins the Royal Army after being betrayed by Leon. In the latter situation, he fights for Fantasinia to fulfill his life debt to Yggdra, get revenge on Leon, and reclaim the Ankhs from Bronquia both for his sake and Rosary's. By the end of the war, he comes to realize that the Ankhs are unnecessary and decides to devote himself to the study of healing magic instead. In the event that he is killed, his specter is revived and confronts Yggdra before her coronation.

Despite his outward appearance, Roswell is rather eccentric and loves bananas, which becomes something of a running gag in the Yggdra Unison audio drama which focuses on Milanor's thief band. Roswell is one of the possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison, in which he joins the war seeking retribution on an unknown culprit who attacked his domain and stole some of his family's research.

Roswell is 21 years old and about 165 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Rosary Esmeralda (ロザリィ・エスメラルダ, Rozarii Esumeraruda): Voiced by: Akemi Sato

Head of the Esmeralda (White Rose) house of Verlaine, which rules the southwestern portion of the country. She is a very prideful witch; considering Roswell to be her rival, she is determined to outdo him magically and become the one to reach the level of their ancestor Valois. Because of this, she is determined to claim both Ankhs, which causes their conflict to expand into a civil war. The citizens of Verlaine explain, however, that in their youth Rosary and Roswell were close friends.

Depending on the player's choice, Rosary is either killed to stop the civil war or joins the Royal Army in its wake. In the former case, her specter is revived once more as a test to Yggdra during her coronation, but in the latter she remains a member of the Royal Army and eventually outgrows her desire to claim the Ankhs.

Aside from using fire magic, Rosary is a skilled creator of golems. Instead of using them as soldiers or magical servants, she treats them as pets, and likes to dress them up using various items. She also shows interest in objects like rope and shackles that can be used as restraints, which she uses to reinforce golems with partially unformed bodies.^[9] She is one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison, where she enters the war after an incident where her family's research documents are stolen; by the time of her victory, she decides that the stolen documents are unnecessary and surpasses the lost research on her own. Rosary also appears in the audio drama following Milanor, where she attempts to play the matchmaker between Milanor and Yggdra despite the annoyance of the rest of the army.

Rosary is 19 years old and about 162 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Mistel (ミステール, Misuteeru): Voiced by: Kozue Kamada

The granddaughter of the famous tactician Bly, who lives with him in seclusion in the Lenessey mountains. She introduces herself as a housewife, but the truth is that she simply does the housework for her grandfather; while she was engaged at one time, her fiancé left her long ago and did not return.^[10] While she has an eccentric personality and is somewhat sheltered, Mistel still possesses similar tactical skill to Bly himself, and after experiencing battle with the Royal Army when they come to seek Bly's help, she decides to join them in her grandfather's place.

Mistel debuted in the PSP version of Yggdra Union. She is a hidden character in the DS version of Yggdra Unison, and is the protagonist of its Royal Army-centric audio drama, where she acts as tactical advisor to Yggdra and Durant.

Despite her intellect and good battlefield judgment, Mistel has poor luck with men. She is the only member of the Royal Army with good domestic skills, and is 28 years old.^[2] Her height is unknown.

Russell (ラッセル, Rasseru): Voiced by: Takehiko Watanabe (Yggdra Union), Satoshi Koizumi (Blaze Union)

A former soldier of Karona who was recruited into the Imperial Army after being defeated. His skill allowed him to rise to the rank of Dragon General quickly afterward, but his loyalty to Fantasinia still lingers. At the time Russell was defeated, although Gulcasa was impressed with his abilities and offered him the chance to join his own army, Russell initially refused; Nessiah suggested that his fiancée Flone be held prisoner to coerce him. While Gulcasa was motivated simply by the desire to become allies, Nessiah reasoned that having a famous Royal general as part of the Imperial Army would strike a severe blow to Fantasinia's morale and make it easier to capture the city of Paltina.^[11] Russell's title as a Dragon General is "Astral Fencer".

When the Royal Army attacks Karona, Russell sends a messenger to open the castle doors for them and guide them to the prison where Flone is held captive. If the player rescues her and then brings her to Russell in the following battlefield, he betrays the Imperial Army, kills Inzaghi, and joins the party.

Russell has a cameo appearance in one of the alternate routes of Blaze Union, where he attempts to stop Gram Blaze's invasion of Fantasinia but is ultimately killed by Emilia during her awakening. It is revealed in this game that Flone is the daughter of Russell's superior officer, and that the two have had a relationship for at least three years prior to Yggdra Union.

Russell is 25 years old at the time of Yggdra Union and hates milk.^[2] He is 176 cm tall.^[6]

Cruz Cruppo Crulielle (クルズ＝クルッポ＝クルリエール, Kuruzu Kuruppo Kururieeru): Voiced by: Hisayoshi Suganuma

A former soldier of Karona who attempted to put together a resistance movement after its fall to Bronquia. The base of the resistance is located in Marduk, and while there is a bounty on Cruz, he does not seem to be particularly effective in his offense. He can be seen briefly in Lenessey, attempting to convince Bly to help him,^[12] but is rejected; later on, as the player progresses through Marduk, Cruz is recruited by the Royal Army after being rescued from Mizer.

Cruz is famous among players for an incident during Chapter 7 of the game where, during a strategy meeting, he is the only character to offer a tactical suggestion ("How 'bout a night attack?"), and is subsequently ignored.^[13] This became such a popular gag amongst players that it is one of the main jokes in Yggdra Union's Royal Army-centric audio drama.

Cruz is 22 years old and about 168 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Pamela (パメラ, Pamera): Voiced by: Ai Nonaka

An eccentric witch who is encountered in Marduk Woods. She is very interested in Undines, and claims to want to study their transmigration process in order to discover the secret to eternal youth. Despite her childish personality, she is extremely powerful, and so she is accepted into the Royal Army when she demands to accompany them to study Nietzsche.

In actuality, Pamela is a member of the Yumel race, and hails from the world of Yumira. She is considered the series mascot of Dept. Heaven, and makes cameo appearances in Knights in the Nightmare, Blaze Union, Gungnir, and Gloria Union. In the former two games she is a recruitable party member if the player possesses Yggdra Union save data of the same region or has a Yggdra Union cartridge in the GBA slot of his or her Nintendo DS.

Pamela is one of the possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison, where her goal is as always to study Undines. She has the appearance of a fifteen-year-old girl^[14] and is 157 cm tall.^[6]^[15]

Elena (エレナ, Erena): Voiced by: Yuki Makishima (Yggdra Union), Mai Goto (Blaze Union)

Black Knight Leon's sister, six years younger than him. As a Bronquian, she initially appears as a member of the Imperial Army and Zilva's apprentice, but has misgivings about her duties and strongly dislikes fighting. Eventually, it is revealed that she only joined the armed forces in order to observe and assassinate her brother due to his madness; she deserts her own unit after a botched attempt to snipe Leon, and instead joins up with Milanor and the Royal Army in order to defeat him. Elena is at first met with great distrust from the other members of the Royal Army, particularly Durant, but is accepted after she saves them from an Imperial pincer attack by sniping Aegina in the eye.

However, Elena continues to consider herself separate from the other Royal commanders, and despises herself for betraying the country and people she loves despite committing herself to Fantasinia's cause. She has an especially difficult time fighting Zilva, who she has strong admiration and affection for. Elena uses extremely formal speech, which Milanor tries to coax her out of doing with limited success.

Elena also appears in Blaze Union, where she travels with her brother as the only one who can still sympathize with him, and explains his plight and the source of his madness to Gram Blaze. At the same time Leon is rescued and brought into their ranks, Elena is adopted into the party and spends her time with the other noncombatants, Luciana and Emilia. Her different hairstyle and wardrobe at this point in time suggest that when she joined Zilva's unit, Zilva may have been attempting to treat her as a replacement for Siskier.

At the time of Yggdra Union, Elena is sixteen years old and about 155 cm tall.^[2]^[6] She is a vegetarian. In Yggdra Unison, she remains a member of the Imperial Army.

Flunky (コブン, Kobun): Voiced by: Katsuya Fujiwara

Milanor's loyal followers. They make up the other members of his band of thieves, and aid him in his quest to find the surviving Royal Army after the destruction of their hideout and encounter with Yggdra. Many of the Flunkies are killed in Milanor's initial battle with Luciana, and the rest die in battle with Inzaghi and Eudy.^[16]

In Yggdra Unison, one of the Flunkies serves as one of Milanor's subordinate generals, and he serves as a minor character in the Milanor's Thieves audio drama. The individual names and ages of the different Flunkies are unknown.

Imperial Army (Gram Blaze)

Gulcasa (ガルカーサ, Garukaasa): Voiced by: Hiroaki Miura (Yggdra Union), Kosuke Toriumi (Blaze Union)

The protagonist of Blaze Union, as well as one of the primary antagonists of Yggdra Union. Though originally of peasant blood, he became Emperor of Bronquia in the year 1487 by way of coup d'état, and in the three years between his coronation and 1490, he reformed its government from monarchy into a near dictatorship. Due to his idealism and care to protect the Imperial people, his reforms have been well received by the populace. He is often called the "Blazing Emperor" (焔帝 Entei).

Gulcasa was born in the ghettoes of the trade city Tiera in the year 1470. When he was a very young child, his parents discovered that he had inherited the blood and powers of the demonic dragon Brongaa; his mother put a strong seal on his power for fear of it, and completed the spell by changing his name to "Garlot" (ガーロット Gaarotto). However, the seal was not strong enough that it could not be broken in extreme circumstances, and so his mother left the family's household in order to gain the power to perfect it. She did not return. Blaming young Garlot for the loss of his wife, his father began to abuse him horribly; both the abuse and his mother's abandonment left deep scars on Garlot's psyche.^[10]^[17]

At that time, he was able to meet and interact with Siskier and Jenon. With their help and protection, he was able to retain his kindness and positive nature. As he grew up, he remained unable to accept the daily injustices around him; this, along with the traumatic experiences of his childhood, caused him to desire power in order to protect himself and the people around him, and change the world so that no one else would have to suffer the way that he did.

In the year 1487, he, Siskier, and Jenon formed a vigilante band to strike back at the nobles in Tiera who preyed on the poor. After their first major battle against the slave merchant Norn and his hired mercenary David, their band gains the attention of Velleman, who hires them as his private army with the promise that this way Garlot would gain the power he seeks. Velleman rechristens them "Gram Blaze", or "furious flames", at this time.

Over the course of the next few months, Garlot is able to gain strength, a greater understanding of the world, and a number of supportive allies, as well as winning the allegiance of the Bronquian people. In the end, the decision is made to rebel against Thortie's government, and Garlot is appointed as the general of the revolution. However, this exascerbates Velleman's paranoia, and when an information leak leads Baldus to attack Gram Blaze's headquarters, Velleman abandons them to die. Upon Gram Blaze's escape, Velleman takes Siskier hostage in an attempt to have Garlot killed, but is foiled when Siskier kills herself to prevent this. The emotional trauma of losing her and being betrayed by a man he perceived as a father figure cause the seal on his blood to erode; out of desperation, Garlot decides to rely on his demon blood to obtain the necessary power to protect his loved ones.

This decision leads to a confrontation with his long-lost mother Baretreenu, who demands that he battle her to the death for the right to have the seal broken. Though reluctant, he is able to do so out of desperation to stop any further tragedy, and is able to assume his true power and original name. From this point on, Gulcasa and his forces resume the revolution, culminating in a successful coup of Thortie's government. Despite facing betrayals and coming to a parting of the ways with Jenon and Medoute, Gulcasa continues to fight to make his and Siskier's dream of a peaceful world a reality, unwilling to give up.

Three years later, Gulcasa acts on his beliefs and the persuasion of Nessiah, Luciana, and Aegina, and attacks Fantasinia. His power, the Imperial Army's unity, and their blitzkrieg tactics allow them to easily destroy Fantasinia's cavalry. He and his soldiers are able to kill Ordene and capture Paltina, but when Yggdra escapes, Gulcasa is forced to split his forces to attempt to find her before she mounts a counterattack. As he remains outside of Paltina, he clashes with Yggdra's forces at the end of their gambit to liberate it. Losing to her, Gulcasa comes to believe that his power is insufficient and switches tactics, luring Yggdra into a trap to capture her. His intent is to use her body as a receptacle for Brongaa's soul in a ritual that will both give him greater power and provide Bronquia with the failsafe of reviving Brongaa to destroy Fantasinia entirely. However, Yggdra is rescued at the last moment by her forces, and so Gulcasa himself decides to become the sacrifice in her place.

The subsequent strengthening of his blood grants him greater power, and correspondingly makes the consequences of relying on his powers more dire. While trying to prevent Yggdra's coronation, Gulcasa pushes himself too hard and collapses in the middle of battle, forcing his troops to retreat in order to protect him. In the wake of this incident, Gulcasa is left too ill to do battle until Yggdra's forces have already invaded Bronquia and killed Zilva, Baldus, and Emilia.

Driven by grief and desperation, Gulcasa rejects Yggdra's demands for his surrender and decides that he must sacrifice himself to Brongaa to secure victory. He allows his blood to overwhelm him for this purpose, which alters his behavior; in this state, he is depicted as openly bloodthirsty, and claims that he fights to reassert his race's sovereignty over the world.^[18] When defeated by Yggdra for the last time, however, he regains his senses and accepts his defeat, charging Yggdra with the protection of the world as he dies.

In the alternate routes of Blaze Union, he never discovers his true name and demon blood, and continues to live as Garlot.

Gulcasa is one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison. In his own route, he succeeds in conquering the world and enforcing worldwide social reform. The Grand Bronquian Empire is described as remaining united for millennia, and Gulcasa himself goes on to become a beloved historical figure whose heroism is passed down through the generations.^[19]

While stubborn and quick-tempered, Gulcasa is popular amongst his allies and the Bronquian people for his kindness and idealism. At age 17 he was 174 cm tall;^[15] at age 20 he is slightly taller than this.^[6] In Blaze Union, Gulcasa is depicted as having a voracious appetite, willing to eat almost anything edible; he prefers grilled meat and is bad with sweets and dairy.^[20] Yggdra Unison, however, shows that he has since gotten over his hatred of milk.

Nessiah (ネシア, Neshia): Voiced by: Junichi Miyake (Yggdra Union), Tsubasa Yonaga (Blaze Union)

The primary strategist of the Imperial Army and Gulcasa's best friend. He is one of the Five Dragon Generals (五頭竜将 Izuryuushou) and is known as "the Prophet" (預言者 Yogensha) due to his uncannily accurate foresight, and due to their close relationship he is afforded an extraordinary amount of trust by Gulcasa.^[21] Outside of battle, Nessiah possesses a very softspoken and gentle personality, but he believes that personal emotions must be kept out of one's strategies, and is rather ruthless on the battlefield. He is blind, and uses highly unusual magical arts.

Nessiah is actually a fallen Grim Angel, and was exiled from Asgard over a thousand years ago for disobeying the gods during Ragnarok; his original name was Aries (アリエス Ariesu).^[10]^[22] His true powers were stripped and his body sealed upon the island of Ancardia with the Chains of Conviction; outraged but helpless, Nessiah made a contract with the people of Yumira to gain use of the Power of Words in exchange for his eye, and used that power to create separate bodies for himself using a form of transmigration. Because they are not his true form, Nessiah can simply create a new vessel when his old one is killed, and is immortal for as long as he is bound in the Chains of Conviction.

In order to gather the necessary power to free himself and get revenge against the gods, Nessiah created the Gran Centurio as a conversion tool to change negative emotion into magical power. He set his remaining eye in the pommel, and can directly observe whatever is happening around the sword; the amount of magical energy in its reservoir also affects how quickly Nessiah can create new bodies for himself.^[10]^[23] He gave this sword to Paltineas, who used it to found the kingdom of Fantasinia; although this was not something Nessiah intended, he has come to center his plans on Fantasinia and its perceiving the Gran Centurio as their symbol of justice as a result.^[10]

During the present era, Nessiah's reputation as a prophet leads Gram Blaze to seek him out as a strategist. Able to sense Garlot's sealed demon blood and seeing his potential, Nessiah agrees to join forces with them, and his skill enables them to gain great power and renown. After the events of Velleman's betrayal, Nessiah takes tactical direction of Gram Blaze, suggesting the unsealing of Garlot's blood and orchestrating the revolution itself. In addition, he takes Siskier's place as Gulcasa's emotional support, even going so far as to help him cope with the side effects of using Brongaa's blood. He does, however, take advantage of their closeness to encourage Gulcasa to attack other countries.

In Yggdra Union, Nessiah is directly or indirectly responsible for many of the plot's background events, having sabotaged all of Fantasinia's allies (Embellia, Verlaine, and Lombardia) both to keep Bronquia from being overwhelmed by Fantasinia's superior numbers and to ensure that the wielder of the Gran Centurio would have to do battle personally, thus increasing its power. He acts as a member of the Imperial Army until Yggdra is captured, and then is forced to betray them to keep Yggdra from becoming Brongaa's vessel and sacrifice in the Rite of Soul Unbinding. However, rather than siding with the Royal Army to accomplish this, Nessiah merely warns them of the danger and kills himself, thereby removing himself from the war entirely until his next vessel is complete.

After the fall of Bronquia, he reappears, demanding that Yggdra return the Gran Centurio to him so that he may leave the world of Ancardia and take revenge on the gods. Enraged by the extent of his machinations, Yggdra and the Royal Army refuse, and do battle with him; Nessiah is eventually defeated. Willing to acknowledge Yggdra's desire to protect her world, he agrees to observe the society free of war she intends to create, and dies.

In Yggdra Unison, Nessiah is one of the twelve possible protagonists, and fights against the rest of the world to end the war and take back the Gran Centurio for the sake of his revenge. At the end of his storyline, he succeeds and departs the world of Ancardia to wage war on Asgard alongside his forces, but no one ever returns from this venture.

Nessiah is physically nineteen years old^[14] and stands at about 170 cm tall.^[6] He loves bananas.^[15] Blaze Union suggests that his remaining senses are unusually strong, as he is able to hear Tiera burning from miles away and judge that a tree is in fruit because of its scent. In Yggdra Unison, he is stated to be a bit of a crybaby with no sense of direction.^[24]

His interactions with Gulcasa in Blaze Union and Yggdra Unison imply some form of strong mutual affection between the two, although the exact nature of their relationship is never clarified. It is further implied that Nessiah's refusal to go so far as to join forces with the Royal Army in Yggdra Union may be because he has grown to care for the Imperial Army.

According to one issue of Sting Monthly Limited, Nessiah's true body has begun to decay. It is unknown whether or not Nessiah himself is aware of this.

Luciana Rune Artwaltz (ルシエナ＝ルーン＝アルトワルツ, Rushiena Ruun Arutowarutsu): Voiced by: Tomoko Fujino (Yggdra Union), Mai Nakahara (Blaze Union)

One of the highest-ranking members of the Imperial Army, who shares the position of captain of the Imperial Guard and the title of "Elusive Valkyrie" (神出鬼没の戦乙女 Shinshutsukibotsu no Ikusaotome) with her younger twin sister Aegina. Luciana is the more outgoing of the two, and has a reputation among the Imperial Army for pulling elaborate pranks on people who anger her, but despite that is said to be the more logical of the twins.^[25] When with the Imperial Army she has a cheerful and mischievous personality, but becomes bitter and vindictive when facing off with Yggdra.

Luciana and Aegina are actually Yggdra's older sisters, who were targeted as babies by Fantasinian courtier Alanjame due to the possibility of a future succession crisis. An old soldier sympathetic to their plight smuggled them out of Fantasinia and into Bronquia, where they were adopted by Marquis Albelt and raised as his heirs. Following Albelt's death, Alanjame's assassins attempt to attack the two once more; Luciana suffers a leg injury and cannot help Aegina fight, but encounters Garlot and Gram Blaze and begs for their help. After this, the twins are accepted into Gram Blaze, becoming Landgrave Velleman's wards. Throughout Blaze Union, Luciana remains confined to Gram Blaze's barracks to let her leg heal, and develops close friendships with Emilia and Elena.

In Yggdra Union, Luciana is the first of the twins to appear, but is continually misidentified as Aegina due to the Royal Army failing to realize that there are two Elusive Valkyries. Luciana takes part in the attack on Milanor's base, the battle for Framm Granary, the battle for Karona, Gulcasa's attack on Lombardia, and a solo attempt to stop Yggdra's coronation. The fact that she continues to appear uninjured even after Aegina has been sniped is one of the most important clues to the fact that they are separate people.

Luciana is the central character of the Yggdra Unison audio drama focusing on the Imperial Army. In the drama, the realization that even the Imperial Army has great difficulty telling her apart from Aegina causes her to become insecure and try to find a way to express her identity more obviously.

In 1490, Luciana is 18 years old and about 162 cm;^[2]^[6] at age 15 she was 159 cm tall.^[15] She likes the color blue. In Blaze Union, she wears a set of pastel blue pajamas that she was dressed in during the Blessed Papal Army's initial attack on her and Aegina; in Yggdra Union her armor is mostly black. She wears her hair loose aside from two small braids framing her face.

Aegina Eine Artwaltz (アイギナ＝アイネ＝アルトワルツ, Aigina Aine Arutowarutsu): Voiced by: Tomoko Fujino (Yggdra Union), Mai Nakahara (Blaze Union)

One of the leaders of the Imperial Guard. She coordinates her movements with her older twin sister Luciana, using their similar appearances to confuse enemy soldiers; this earns them both the name of "Elusive Valkyrie". Aegina is serious, quiet, and level-headed, generally the more well-behaved of the twins. Despite this, she is said to be the more emotional of the two, and sometimes displays passionate anger towards especially hated enemies.^[25]

Alongside Luciana, Aegina was saved and adopted by the noble Albelt, raised in seclusion from society in order to protect her from the Blessed Papal Army. After Albelt's death, the two are attacked, and Luciana is injured; Aegina tries to fight them off to protect her sister, and is saved by the arrival of Garlot and Gram Blaze. The two of them are inducted into the army for protection and to allow Velleman to control their city, but Aegina is the only one capable of taking part in battle. She has deep respect and admiration for Garlot, and always considers herself to be in his debt for his continual protection and kindness; she also develops a close friendship with Siskier. While otherwise polite and reserved, she harbors a deep hatred of all of Fantasinia, considering everything about the country to be evil. This mindset is implied to be one of the major factors that motivates Gulcasa to target Fantasinia in the year 1490.

During Yggdra Union, Aegina is the first of the twins to be named, and therefore the Royal Army mistakes both twins to be her until the sacking of Flarewerk, where she and Luciana fight side-by-side. Aegina herself first appears in the battle to rescue Durant, and participates in the battles for Lenessey, Paltina, and Galleon Prison, where she is incapacitated when sniped in the eye by Elena. This is her final appearance until the campaign for Flarewerk, wherein she and Luciana are both killed by Yggdra. As they were the only support he had left, their deaths drive Gulcasa to attempt to resurrect Brongaa in a last-ditch effort to destroy the Royal Army.

Aegina is the protagonist of one of the alternate routes of Blaze Union, in which she leads Gram Blaze to attack Fantasinia to avenge the assassination of Luciana. Over the course of her invasion, she crosses blades with her father Ordene and learns that it was not him but Alanjame who was responsible for her and Luciana's exile. After these events, she is able to reconcile with Yggdra and chooses to live alongside her as a princess of Fantasinia.

In the year 1490, Aegina is 18 years old and about 162 cm tall.^[2]^[6] At age 15, she stood at 159 cm.^[15] She likes mushrooms and the color red; her civilian clothes in Blaze Union are pink, and her armor in Yggdra Union is mostly red.^[15] She wears her hair in a single braid. Most members of the Imperial Army differentiate her from Luciana based on her hairstyle and the color of her clothes, but Gulcasa and Emilia can tell them apart even without visual cues.^[26]

Emilia (エミリオ, Emirio): Voiced by: Ai Nonaka

Gulcasa's younger half-sister by the same father, and also one of the Five Dragon Generals, known as the "Scarlet Princess" (緋雪姫 Hisetsuki).^{[n 2]} Despite her youth, she is the leader of the Imperial aerial forces; like her brother, she is a bearer of Brongaa's blood, although it isn't quite as strong in her as in him. Emilia's devotion to and pride in her brother are very strong, and she fights for his sake as much as for Bronquia and its people.

As a child, Emilia also had her blood sealed by Baretreenu, and was given the fake name "Eimi" (エイミ Eimi). Aware that she has a brother named Gulcasa, she travels Bronquia alone in search of him; despite meeting Garlot once, the two remain unaware that they are related, prevented from realizing the truth by the respective seals on their blood. Eventually, Emilia travels to Nessiah's forest mansion to ask for his help, and stays with him until the arrival of Gram Blaze, whereupon he prophecies that traveling with them will allow her to reunite with Gulcasa much sooner.

After this, Emilia remains at the barracks with Luciana and Elena until the plans to rebel are leaked and Garlot's connection to Brongaa is revealed. Watching him assume his true identity and struggle to protect Bronquia, she develops the desire to become his strength in any way that she can; this leads her to join the military. Emilia is more knowledgeable about Brongaa's blood than her brother, and is able to sense when he is pushing himself too hard, often coming to rescue him on those occasions.

At the time of Yggdra Union, Emilia and her aerial unit are active combatants in the war against Fantasinia. They do battle with the Royal Army various times, and after the fall of Ishnad, Emilia is the sole surviving Dragon General; with Eudy, Luciana, and Aegina fortifying Flarewerk and Gulcasa still too sick to do battle, Emilia is the only person left to protect the civilians. She is defeated and killed in Drominos after sustaining several injuries in the battle for Bardot.

In one of the alternate routes of Blaze Union, Emilia breaks the seal on her blood early out of desperation to be of use to the rest of Gram Blaze. As she is already under extreme mental stress due to witnessing Luciana's death and being told that she can do nothing to help the people she loves, she is very vulnerable to Brongaa's instinctual bloodlust. Therefore, if her fear of being subjected to further ageism is aggravated, she eventually loses control of her power and goes on a rampage, forcing Garlot to kill her and leading to that route's bad ending.

Emilia is fourteen years old in the year 1490.^[2] At age eleven, she stood at 132 cm tall;^[15] at fourteen she is about 140 cm.^[6] She likes gothic lolita fashion, and hates more than anything to be treated as a useless child.

Baldus (バルドゥス, Barudusu): Voiced by: Tetsu Inada (Yggdra Union), Daichi Endou (Blaze Union)

One of Gulcasa's Five Dragon Generals, known both as the "God of War" (軍神 Gunshin) and "Bronquia's Shield". He has been a member of the Imperial Army for many generations, and fought in campaigns against Bly, where he was known as the only man who could ever see through Bly's tactics. Baldus is famed as a defensive strategist, and is usually stationed in his home city Ishnad or at the gates of Flarewerk.

Baldus and Garlot first meet at a practice held by Thortie, who oversees battles between Baldus' Steel Cavalry and various noblemen's private armies in order to gauge the strengths his nobles hold. In doing battle, the two develop a deep respect for one another, and Baldus expresses approval for Garlot's goals to protect the people of Bronquia.

When the plans for rebellion are leaked, Baldus immediately moves out to attack Gram Blaze due to his high estimation of their power; they are forced to destroy their own barracks in order to cover their escape. This incident leads to Siskier, as the party's lead scout, being captured and held hostage by Velleman, and thus to the awakening of Garlot's blood.

At the end of the revolution, when Baldus is left as the last general defending Flarewerk, he is convinced by Gulcasa and Nessiah to join forces with them, as this is in the best interests of the people. Inspired by Gulcasa's dream, Baldus accepts their invitation and the burden of having betrayed Thortie; from this time on he is a loyal member of Gulcasa's army.

During the war with Fantasinia, Baldus spends most of his time stationed at Ishnad, and is the primary opponent of the Royal Army in a long and grueling campaign to keep them from passing through the castle and into Bronquian territory. In the end, he is forced to open the castle to save the people of Ish, but continues to defend the gates to Bronquia until his last breath.

In the year 1490, Baldus is 55 years old.^[2] As the oldest member of the Imperial Army, he acts as a paternal figure to the other members, particularly Gulcasa; in return, he is viewed with great respect by all. Baldus is 172 cm tall and likes wheat.^[6]^[15]

Leon (レオン, Reon): Voiced by: Hidehiko Kaneko (Yggdra Union), Takuya Satou (Blaze Union)

One of Gulcasa's Five Dragon Generals, called the "Black Knight" (黒騎士 Kurokishi). He comes from a family of knights who serve in the Imperial Guard, but after an unexplained crisis, his parents were forced by Thortie to take the blame and unfairly executed. Leon himself was branded and chased from his post, and from that time has slowly lost his ability to trust other people, resulting in his having an especially belligerent personality.^[10]

After losing to Garlot in a practice match, Leon receives a severe emotional shock, and quits the military entirely. He later joins up with Pandra's army in order to obtain soldiers and avenge his loss, becoming entirely obsessed with defeating Garlot. But in the end he and Pandra do not get along well, and Pandra eventually decides to use Leon as bait to distract Gram Blaze so that he may sack Tiera; these incidents gradually cause Leon to become disillusioned with him and question his own motives. Finally able to accept his loss, Leon allows Elena to escape from the rebel army and chooses to stand and face death at the hands of Pandra's forces; however, Leon is then rescued by Garlot, who convinces him to keep living for Elena's sake. After this, Leon joins forces with Gram Blaze, and develops a strong sense of loyalty towards Garlot that he cannot always express honestly.

Even after this, Leon's personality remains somewhat warped, and his insanity and bloodlust continue to grow more severe once Gulcasa overthrows Thortie's government. In order to keep his behavior from frightening Elena, Leon begins to hide his face behind a mask at this time.^[10] By the year 1490, Leon is well-known and feared as an indiscriminately violent loose cannon who can only be held in check by Gulcasa, the sole person he is still able to trust.

In Yggdra Union, Leon fights with the Royal Army a number of times before their final confrontation in Lost Aries. There, he is killed by Elena, who has lost hope of his ever being able to return to his former self and believes that he must be stopped whatever the cost.

Leon is 22 years old at the time of Yggdra Union, is about 175 cm tall, and likes apples.^[2]^[6]^[15]

Zilva (ジルヴァ, Jiruva): Voiced by: Mariko Suzuki (Yggdra Union), Rie Tanaka (Blaze Union)

The leader of the Imperial Special Forces. Zilva is extremely quiet and usually very businesslike, and has been conditioned since she was a young child to keep her emotions from interfering with her missions. She is usually deployed as support for other units or to accomplish behind-the-scenes duties, and has taken Elena as her apprentice.

Zilva was originally attached to the Blessed Papal Army under Alanjame's command, and was raised from birth to be the ideal assassin, dependent on her superiors for everything. However, her repeated failures to assassinate Luciana and Aegina cause her to lose favor, and in the end her superiors turn on her. Gram Blaze rescues her, and inspired by Garlot and Siskier's words, Zilva departs to try to find new meaning in living.

Later, a meeting at a tournament causes her to request to join Gram Blaze out of the desire to understand the bonds between friends and comrades. From this point on she is a loyal supporter of their cause, and becomes especially attached to Siskier. After the events of Velleman's betrayal and Siskier's suicide, Zilva devotes herself to the same goals as Gulcasa, sharing his hope to realize the kind of world that Siskier would have wanted.

Zilva's resolve is tested during the war with Fantasinia when Elena betrays the Imperial Army; while she does not desire to fight her apprentice, the two must face each other a number of times. In the end, the two are forced into a confrontation when Milanor and Elena discover Zilva's forces setting up a counterattack during their attempt to flood Ishnad; Elena kills Zilva to keep her from alerting Baldus.

Zilva is 20 years old at the time of Yggdra Union, and is 171 cm tall.^[2]^[6] She likes fish, and despite her androgynous appearance and personality, has a deep liking for small and cute objects.^[15] It is suggested that she may be attempting to use Elena as a surrogate for Siskier, and made her over to look more like the latter for that purpose.

Eudy (ユーディ, Yuudi): Voiced by: Ai Maeda (Yggdra Union), Eimi Okada (Blaze Union)

The Imperial Court Magister and leader of Bronquia's magical division. She is also the ballistics specialist, and is usually in charge of any cannons on the field. In addition, Eudy's intelligence tends to cause her to be used as a secondary tactician at times. Her assertive personality makes her seem somewhat domineering on the battlefield.

In the past, Eudy studied at a prestigious magic academy and was at the top of her class, but she was thrown out right before graduation due to her tendency to ignore the school's policies.^[15] After that time, she worked as a ballistics researcher in the mountains until she was sought out by Gram Blaze. From that time on she has been a steadfast member of Gulcasa's army, sometimes working as a strategist with Nessiah and Baldus and sometimes supporting the front-line generals instead.

During Yggdra Union, Eudy is often found stationed in castles where there is ample space to set up a cannon battery. She participates in the defense of Paltina, Karona, and Ishnad before she is finally ordered by Baldus to retreat to Flarewerk for the sake of defending Gulcasa. In the battle for the gate to the capital, Eudy is killed in the explosion resulting from Kylier's suicide attack.

Eudy is 28 years old in the year 1490, and is 166 cm tall.^[2]^[6] She likes pickles.^[15] Aside from her love of cannons, she is known for always having her hair tied up in twintails or odango buns, as well as for her tendency to become overly excited and get carried away. She has a supporting role in the Yggdra Unison Imperial Army-centric audio drama, in which she attempts to help Luciana bring out her individuality.

Monica (モニカ, Monika): Voiced by: Yui Sakakibara

A young girl who hails from the Bardot region of Bronquia. She is both a pious believer of the Meria religion and a patriot, and founds the Anti-Paltas Militia with her friend Canaan after receiving divine inspiration.^[27] She is a source of hope amongst her fellow villagers, and swearing to protect Bronquia and Gulcasa until the Imperial Army arrives to help, she stands against Yggdra in battle only to die in vain.

In Yggdra Unison, Monica is one of the Imperial commanders rather than a simple militia soldier. Throughout the course of the game, she states several times that she desires greater power in order to protect what she loves, creating a strong resemblance between her and Gulcasa. Monica is sixteen years old and about 160 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Canaan (カナン, Kanan): Voiced by: Hisayoshi Suganuma

A youth born and raised in the Imperial region of Bardot. He is Monica's close friend. In order to protect their land and Gulcasa from the Royal Army's invasion, he supported Monica in the creation of the Anti-Paltas Militia, and leads it alongside her. The militia's objective was merely to buy time for the Imperial Army, but unable even to avenge Monica's death, Canaan and his forces fall at Yggdra's hands.

In Yggdra Unison, Canaan serves as a member of the Imperial Army proper instead of simply being a militiaman. He is seventeen years old and is about 167 cm tall.^[2]^[6]

Former Members

Siskier (シスキア, Shisukia): Voiced by: Yui Horie

Garlot's first and best friend, a seventeen-year-old girl who grew up with him in the slums of Tiera.^[15] The two of them met as small children, and upon learning how badly Garlot was being abused, Siskier brought him to play with her to try to cheer him up. While Garlot began to see her as a nurturing and parental figure, growing to trust and depend on her, Siskier gradually fell in love with him. However, she is unable to confess her true feelings, and he remains unaware of them.

Throughout the story, Siskier is Garlot's primary source of comfort and reassurance whenever the state of the world around him causes him worry. She also serves as the leader of Gram Blaze's scouts; due to her quick reflexes and alertness, she tends to sense danger coming well before anyone else. Perhaps because of her duties, Siskier hates clothing that restricts her movements^[28] and dresses so lightly that she is often accused of being an exhibitionist by other characters; the sole exception she is willing to make is for scarves, which she adores and buys whenever she has the opportunity.

When the plans to rebel are leaked, Siskier leads the expedition to escape Gram Blaze's barracks, and is captured by Velleman while waiting for the others to catch up to her. As Velleman announces his intent to let her live if Jenon will execute Garlot, Siskier refuses to allow Gram Blaze to make that choice, instead throwing herself off the cliff she and Velleman are standing on. The trauma of her death causes the seal on Garlot's powers to erode, and instills in him a desperation to never let any of his other friends die that continues to drive him throughout the rest of the series.

In both of the alternate routes of Blaze Union, Siskier survives and continues to support Garlot. She is 161 cm tall and likes salad and sweet things.^[15]

Jenon (ジェノン, Jenon): Voiced by: Shinji Kawada

Garlot and Siskier's childhood friend, seventeen years of age.^[15] Although he is of noble blood, he has concealed this fact from both of them, which is implied to be based upon Siskier's prejudice against the rich. In order to join their fight to protect the poor, Jenon ran away from home; he serves as the tactician for Gram Blaze.

Jenon puts on airs as a gentleman and has a lighthearted personality, often cracking jokes and flirting with most of the women he meets, but his facetiousness covers up the fact that he only has feelings for Siskier and is simply unsure of how to confess to her. He is not aware that she loves Garlot; likewise, Garlot is able to perceive where Jenon's heart truly lies. As Jenon received a good education, he often explains political and geographical intricacies to Garlot and Siskier, who otherwise wouldn't be aware of them. While he is on good terms with most of Gram Blaze, Jenon sees Nessiah as a rival due to their similar roles, criticizing him often and starting a number of arguments.

After Siskier's death, Jenon and Gulcasa grow apart; when approached by Medoute, Jenon agrees to become her co-conspirator. He attributes the changes in Gulcasa's behavior to his demon blood, and sides with Medoute after she attempts to attack Gulcasa. Both Jenon and Medoute leave Bronquia after this incident.

In the alternate routes of Blaze Union, no such rift develops between Jenon and Garlot. On the C path, Jenon sacrifices himself to protect Siskier, and ultimately chooses not to confess his feelings to her when he realizes that she loves Garlot.

Jenon likes milk and is 178 cm tall.^[15]

Medoute (メデューテ, Medyuute): Voiced by: Rie Tanaka

A self-proclaimed traveling warrior who becomes interested in Garlot and his companions after observing their battle against Norn and David. While Medoute assists them against David, she also criticizes Garlot for his recklessness, claiming that someone as weak and lacking in wisdom as him will never be able to carry out his ideals. Later, seeing that her words affected Garlot deeply and have driven him to try to improve himself, Medoute joins the party as a mentor to the original members of Gram Blaze as a way to take responsibility. Over the course of the game, she lectures the other characters about morality and relates her experiences while traveling the world.

Medoute is one of the descendants of the hero Gill who defeated Brongaa, and as such she was raised as a dragonslayer. However, as there are no great dragons to slay in the modern world, Medoute grew to question and eventually resent her upbringing, and ran away to rebel against her destiny. Upon realizing that she has only come to replace her abandoned responsibilities with attachments to Gram Blaze, she comes to decide that she must eventually leave the party as well and go back to traveling the world.

Upon discovering that Garlot is actually a descendant of Brongaa and Garlot's decision to assume his true identity as Gulcasa, Medoute becomes extremely suspicious of him, and gets Jenon to help her spy on him. After witnessing an incident where Nessiah forces Gulcasa to kill a foot soldier to save himself from Brongaa, Medoute decides that Gulcasa has already lost his humanity and attempts to kill him. After Gulcasa and his army subdue her, he attempts to reconcile, but Medoute rejects his entreaties. Still refusing to execute her, Gulcasa allows both Medoute and Jenon to escape, after which both of them leave the country.

Although Medoute remains ignorant of Garlot's heritage in the other routes, she still leaves the party at the end of all of them. She demonstrates avoidant characteristics, not liking to display emotional distress or see such displays from others even in the face of traumas such as the death of a comrade.^[29]^[30] The events of most paths of the game inspire Medoute to embark on her own personal quest to discover the meaning of her blood. She is 21 years old, likes travel rations, and is 168 cm tall.^[15]

Velleman (ヴェルマン, Veruman): Voiced by: Go Shinomiya

The initial founder and employer of Gram Blaze, a landgrave of Tiera who desired an army to help him clear away his political enemies and strengthen Bronquia on the battlefield as well as in the nobility's realm. He is particularly good at influencing others through public speaking. Velleman is very stern and serious, and is critical of the way that Garlot is ruled by his emotions; he comes to view Gram Blaze as his personal tools, and upon growing used to having them around, Velleman begins to fear that they will one day turn on him.

Although Velleman admits that Garlot's altruism has had a positive influence on him and spurred him to protect the city of Tiera, during the canon route of the game Velleman's paranoia gets the better of him when Garlot is promoted to general of the revolution. When the plans to rebel are leaked by an unknown perpetrator, Velleman abandons Gram Blaze to die at Baldus' hands. Discovering that they escaped, he then takes Siskier prisoner and attempts to use her to force Gram Blaze to kill Garlot; when the plan backfires with Siskier's suicide, Velleman is defeated and killed by the survivors of Gram Blaze.

In the alternate routes of the game, Velleman survives; in the C route, he is chosen by Thortie to become Bronquia's prime minister. While he was once married and has a daughter, Velleman separated from his wife six years ago and the whereabouts of his family are unknown.^[31] He is 180 cm tall, likes cheese, and was 36 years of age at the time of Blaze Union.^[15]

Byff (バイフー, Baifuu): Voiced by: Tsuguo Mogami

A massive white tiger from a faraway northern country. He is the familiar of a powerful witch, and was transformed into a beastman to serve her better.^[15] His master sent him to Bronquia in search of a book that "holds all of creation", which unbeknown to Byff himself is Nessiah's spellbook, the Revelation of the Gods. Gram Blaze encounters Byff searching through an empty mansion for books, and decides to bring him along to keep him out of trouble. Byff constantly makes puns, claiming that jokes are the basis of beastman communication, and does not always understand human values. He hates water.

After the revolution, Byff departs in order to keep searching for the book, though he is implied to stay with the party in the alternate routes of Blaze Union. He is 202 cm tall and loves marshmallows.^[15]

Mizer (ミゼル, Mizeru): Voiced by: Junichi Miyake (Yggdra Union), Tsubasa Yonaga (Blaze Union)

A former pickpocket and sneak thief who frequented Drominos and Bardot, known as "Mizer the Barefoot" (はだしのミゼル Hadashi no Mizeru). Like the band of vigilantes Gulcasa originally led, he steals only from the rich and the nobility, and always shares his goods with the unfortunate. Mizer comes from a family of hunters who once lived in Nyllard Desert,^[32] and when he was a young child his parents were so poor that they couldn't even buy him shoes; in order to keep his feelings from that time fresh in his heart, he swore not to wear shoes for as long as the poor were oppressed in Bronquia. He joins Gram Blaze after an incident where Velleman mistakes him for having stolen an important pendant.

After Gulcasa's revolution, Mizer decides to become a bounty hunter out of the feeling that he wouldn't fit in as a member of a formal army, but continues to take jobs from his former comrades. He also becomes a great shoe lover and tends to spend most of his profits on new footwear. During Yggdra Union, Mizer attacks the Royal Army a number of times, aiming for the bounties on Yggdra and Cruz; it is implied that this behavior is inspired by loyalty to Gulcasa rather than the desire for money itself. However, Mizer eventually gives up on chasing Yggdra, and because of this is the only enemy character to survive that game.

Mizer is 21 years old at the time of Yggdra Union.^[2] He is 167 cm tall and likes rice balls.^[6]^[15] In Yggdra Unison, he joins forces with Pamela.

Sleip (スレイプ, Sureipu): Voiced by: Asako Dodo

The sole survivor of a clan of sea-dwelling Undines captured by the Duke of Balin's army. She is 23 years old at the time of Blaze Union.^[15] Gram Blaze rescues her from being taken to Flarewerk when they are ordered to stop Balin's ship, which Velleman believes is carrying a tribute to Thortie; upon seeing her condition, Garlot inducts her into Gram Blaze out of sympathy. Sleip is always drunk and has a crass personality, continually flirting with Garlot and the other young men and trying to get them to drink with her. She claims that she would not be able to stand the loss of her comrades without alcohol, giving her the appearance of someone who turned to drink out of grief, but was actually a drunkard from the very start.^[15] She has a large tattoo of a condor on her back, an expression of her desire to travel the world both land and sea.^[15]

Sleip and her people were actually being taken to Flarewerk because they were being drafted into the Imperial Army, not as a tribute, which is only explained in Sleip's confrontation with Thortie during their final battle.^[15] Although Sleip is aware of the truth, she still holds a grudge against Thortie because of his army's brutality. After Gulcasa's coronation, Sleip decides to leave Bronquia, and meets up with Jenon and Medoute on their way out of the country. She is implied to stay with Gram Blaze in the game's alternate endings.

Eater (イータ, Iita): Voiced by: Minori Chihara

A young woman who calls herself a minstrel and claims to be searching for a strong man to inspire her. She first appears during a battle between the women of Gram Blaze and a group of local gangsters, and upon being rescued by them and learning their identity, she decides to join them. Eater has two separate personalities, one female and one male, and which one is in control depends on the time of day. The female personality, which is in control during the day, is extremely flirtatious and fights by playing a white clàrsach; the male personality, which is in control during the night, is hot-blooded and thuggish and fights both with his fists and using his harp as a bludgeoning weapon. Both personalities identify as the same person (although the male side is less than pleased by the female side's choice of clothing), and Eater's body itself is female.

Eater is a fallen angel, a fact that she neither makes a point of nor tries to hide.^[15] The exact reason she was exiled from Asgard is not known, although the fact that she is an irregular existence may be reason enough in Asgard's society. She and Nessiah are acquainted. At the end of the canon route of Blaze Union, Eater departs Bronquia in search of further inspiration; however, she is implied to remain with Gram Blaze in the alternate endings.

Eater has a cameo appearance in Gloria Union as a potential party character.

Supporting Characters in Yggdra Union

Embellians

Emelone (エメローネ, Emeroone): Voiced by: Yuki Makishima

The 26-year-old queen of the Undines.^[2] Despite wishing to coexist with humans peacefully and holding pacifistic views, she consents to the plan to attack humans because she considers it her duty to protect her people no matter what the cost. She is especially close to her bodyguard Ishiene, and used to be on especially good terms with Yggdra's family. At the end of the battle for Florand, Emelone is killed by the Royal Army to stop the attacks on Embellian humans.

Emelone is one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison. In that game, she and her forces venture into the war in order to find out why it started and stop the humans from fighting. Upon unifying the world, she promotes peaceful coexistence between all races.

Ishiene (イシーヌ, Ishiinu): Voiced by: Kozue Kamada

The captain of Emelone's bodyguards, and one of the major supporters of the plan to attempt to create eternal youth potion using human blood in order to preserve their race. She is twenty-five years old.^[2] Instead of simply hating the culprit behind the theft of the Transmigragem, Ishiene has come to hate all humans equally, and regards Nietzsche as a traitor for trying to help them. Despite her haughty personality, she is motivated more by worry for Emelone and love of her people than racism, and is willing to protect Emelone to the death. She is killed by the Royal Army in the battle to reach the Aqua Palace.

Lombardians

Gordon (ゴードン, Goodon): Voiced by: Takehiko Watanabe

The 28-year-old leader of the Temple Knights, Lombardia and the Joachim sect's military forces.^[2] The Royal Army encounters him in the city of Oz, whereupon he joins forces with them to find and protect the Pope. After Joachim and Yggdra depart for Welheim, he assists the Royal Army in holding off Gulcasa's battallion; if defeated in this battle, he dies permanently, whereas if he survives he chooses to remain in Lombardia.

Gordon is one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison, in which he acts as Joachim's representative and attempts to bring the entire world under the control of the Joachim sect.

Joachim Lia Blaucent (ヨハイム＝レア＝ブラウセント, Yohaimu Rea Burausento): Voiced by: Masaya Takatsuka

The 47th pope of the Meria religion, and the only one other than the Artwaltz family capable of entering Welheim. He leads the traditionalist sect of the Meria religion and is 64 years old.^[2] As he is the only person who can crown Yggdra and thus grant her the full power of the Gran Centurio, he is targeted by the Imperial Army, but he is found by the Royal Army instead and agrees to perform Yggdra's coronation. However, after doing so, he is killed by Luciana upon Nacht Altar.

Juvelon (ユベロン, Yuberon): Voiced by: Kouji Haramaki

A 49-year-old cardinal of the Meria religion, and the leader of the Meriant sect.^[2] Extremely cowardly and nervous in nature, he is easily tempted by Mardym and his own greed to use and abuse the people around him, but panicks at the possibility of receiving any personal harm. It is noted in Blaze Union that the gaudy necklace he wears is made of extremely rare minerals.

Juvelon is also one of the twelve possible protagonists in Yggdra Unison, in which Mardym sways him into attempting to conquer the world for personal gain.

Mardym (マルディム, Marudimu): Voiced by: Katsuya Fujiwara

A 29-year-old archbishop, Juvelon's right-hand man.^[2] He is the one who originally tempted Juvelon into starting the intersectarian war, and was told by an Imperial agent that he would have Bronquia's support in deposing both Joachim and Juvelon. Mardym professes harsh religious elitism, but is accused by numerous characters to only be using the Meria religion to gain power over others.

Amareus (アマレウス, Amareusu): Voiced by: Akemi Sato

The chief assassin of the Meriant sect, who only appears in the battle for St. Meriata. She is in her twenties and wears a burqa, and has absolute loyalty to Juvelon rather than to Mardym. In Yggdra Unison it is explained that she was originally a simple dancer; it is also implied that she was selected not just to become an assassin, but Juvelon's personal concubine.^[33] She has a flirtatious personality.

Bandits and Mercenaries

Inzaghi (インザーギ, Inzaagi): Voiced by: Katsuya Fujiwara (Yggdra Union), Atsushi Abe (Blaze Union)

A lower-class Lombardian mercenary hired by Gulcasa to give the Imperial Army greater manpower.^[34] He is 21 years old.^[2] Inzaghi is something of a slacker and tends to retreat prematurely if he feels that the flow of battle isn't favorable, so he is almost always posted under the watchful eye of other Imperial commanders. Inzaghi is the second named member of the Imperial Army to die (counting Nessiah), and is killed by Russell when the latter betrays Bronquia to side with the Royal Army.

Inzaghi also appears in Blaze Union, where he is hired by many different characters over the course of the game, such as Pandra and Cerica. Gram Blaze finally drives him off in the battle for Tiera, after which he does not return as an enemy. Inzaghi is much newer to mercenary work in this game, having recently given up life as a bandit out of the desire to support himself legally. His self-preservation instinct decreeing that his life itself is worth more than his salary is a remnant of this time.

In Yggdra Unison, Inzaghi is affiliated with Ortega rather than the Imperial Army for the sake of character balance; this is also a callback to an incident in Yggdra Union where he is briefly hired by Ortega in an attack on Verlaine. Inzaghi likes hats and onions, and is 169 cm tall.^[6]^[15]

Ortega (オルテガ, Orutega): Voiced by: Masaya Takatsuka

A 32-year-old bandit who frequents the Lenessey Mountains with the band he leads.^[2] He is called the "Brigand King" by his followers, and while he primarily harasses travelers trying to head through his territory, he also leads expeditions into Verlaine and Embellia on occasion. As a survivor of a minority race, Ortega has a firm policy to not attack villages set up by his own people, and has gained popularity because of this.^[34] He first appears in chapter 2, and is killed in chapter 3 when the Royal Army fights him for the right to pass through the mountains.

Ortega is one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison, and enters the war simply to test his own strength. When he conquers the world in his own ending, he chooses not to become the continent's sovereign and returns to the mountains in order to continue his carefree lifestyle. He has a very jovial and childish personality, and partakes in banditry mainly for survival.

Dort (ドルト, Doruto): Voiced by: Tetsu Inada

A 38-year-old bandit who lives in the deserts of Nyllard with his band, preying on travelers heading between Lombardia and Fantasinia.^[2] During chapter 5, he attacks the Royal Army as they make their way towards the Holy Land in order to crown Yggdra, and in an optional side event, it is possible for the player to kill him and depose his band.

Dort is also one of the twelve possible protagonists of Yggdra Unison. As a believer in the sun god Barlabasa, Dort desires to rekindle belief in his god throughout the entire continent. Although he succeeds in uniting the world in his own ending, his preachings are generally ignored and cause others to think of him as more of a nuisance than anything else; this does not seem to dissuade him. Dort is a well-educated and literate man, despite his brash personality.

Angels

Marietta (マリエッタ, Marietta): Voiced by: Mariko Suzuki

The Guardian Angel on duty at the sector of Heaven's Gate connected to the world of Ancardia. When the Royal Army arrives at Heaven's Gate via the island of Ancardia, she recognizes the Gran Centurio as having divine power, and commands the Royal Army to hand it over and return to their world. If Yggdra complies, Marietta seals the sword along with Nessiah's body in the Great Temple, then gives her the Scepter of Wisdom (later renamed Ancardia) and sends Yggdra and the others back to their world; if not, she battles the Royal Army instead, which leads to the game's bad endings.

Marietta has brief appearances in most Dept. Heaven games, and she plays an especially integral role in Knights in the Nightmare.

#367 (367号, Sanrokunana-gou): Voiced by: Mariko Suzuki

A young angel being used as a test subject in Hector's experiment to manufacture Grim Angels. She is an imperfect result being tested in battle against the invading Royal Army, and only appears in the bonus stage of Yggdra Union PSP's hard mode, BF49. Her given name (if she has one) is unknown, but she is about 15 years old.^[2]

#367 is ordinarily extremely meek and subservient, but when the Servants who accompany her force her synchronization with her fake Diviner higher than its natural bounds, both her appearance and personality change and she becomes extremely bloodthirsty.

Non-Combat Characters

Bly (ブライ, Burai): Voiced by: Kouji Haramaki

A famous Fantasinian tactician who served under King Belganathos and then King Ordene. He and Baldus were rivals in their youth, and Baldus was famed as the only man who could ever see through Bly's plans, so much so that Bly was never able to defeat him. In Ordene's era, Bly urged that Fantasinia must conquer Bronquia both to eliminate all remaining threats to the kingdom and to save (and thus win over) the people suffering under the Imperial Family's decaying rule. When Ordene wondered whether Bly would remove Ordene himself if it were for Fantasinia's sake, Bly admitted that he would do it; after this, the Fantasinian court became outraged and exiled him. However, Ordene saw to it that Bly and his family were able to escape with their lives.

In 1490, Bly lives as a hermit in the Lenessey Mountains with his granddaughter Mistel. He is not aware of Ordene's death, but expresses regret over it as well as Ordene's not heeding his advice (and thus Bronquia being saved by Gulcasa instead, creating further conflict between the kingdom and empire). He declines Yggdra's invitation for him to come with the Royal Army both because he believes himself too old for war and because people remain in the court who would try to blame him for the fall of Paltina.

Flone (フローネ, Furoone): Voiced by: Tomoko Fujino

Russell's fiancée, to whom he has been engaged for at least three years. She is the 23-year-old daughter of Russell's former superior officer.^[2] After the fall of Karona, she was imprisoned when Nessiah suggested that this might coerce Russell into serving as an Imperial soldier the way that Gulcasa wanted. If the player discovers and rescues her during chapter 4, she explains this to the Royal Army. She remains behind in Karona when the party departs for Marduk.

Supporting Characters in Blaze Union

Former Imperial Army

Thortie (ソルティエ, Sorutie): Voiced by: Masayuki Katou

The Emperor of Bronquia in the year 1487. Although he was the eldest child of the Imperial family, he did not initially inherit the throne upon his father's death from illness; due to pressure from the courts, his younger brother Ike (アイク Aiku) was made Emperor instead because of Ike's more placid personality. However, Ike was assassinated by the military due to his dissolution of the country's armed forces, and so Thortie was forced to take the throne anyway. Distrusting both the military and court and resenting them for manipulating him and his brother, Thortie decided that the only chance he had of controlling the country was through fear.

Thortie briefly appears early in the plot of Blaze Union, crossing paths with Garlot and company on their way to Flarewerk. Later on, after seeing Gram Blaze do battle, Thortie becomes curious about Garlot due to being able to sense his hidden power and decides to try to draw it out, having him do battle with Baldus and Thortie's bodyguard Lapis.

In the A route, Thortie becomes one of the primary antagonists as the story follows Gulcasa's revolution. He falls in battle against Gulcasa in the streets of Flarewerk, taunting Gulcasa that as users of Brongaa's power, they will share the same fate.

In the C route, however, he falls deathly ill due to complications in his contract with Brongaa and Gram Blaze is called upon to have Baretreenu and Nessiah cure him. After this, he falls under Nessiah's control, and must be subdued and freed; after this incident Thortie is willing to cooperate with Gram Blaze, and offers to abdicate the throne if Ordene is willing to surrender the Gran Centurio to be sealed. He also appears in the epilogue to this route, and is shown to be on good terms with the party there.

Thortie has a close relationship with Lapis, as the two of them have known each other since childhood. When he ascended the throne, he forcefully had her installed as his bodyguard, ignoring the court and military's protests, and uses her as a counselor of sorts. Although he is 36 years of age, Thortie is unmarried and has no heirs; he is also in poor health due to the strain of his contract with Brongaa. In battle he is a shrewd general, but his temperament is otherwise very laid-back. He is 183 cm tall and likes hard-boiled eggs.^[15]

Lapis (ラピス, Rapisu): Voiced by: Minori Chihara

Thortie's bodyguard, who is rarely seen apart from him. She acts as his confidante, and is both very protective of him and extremely serious about her duties. Her comparatively straight-laced nature sometimes causes her to be nonplussed over Thortie's more mischievous side.

When Lapis was still a small child, her mother was selected to serve as the infant prince Ike's wet nurse, and so she was on fairly close terms with both Ike and Thortie while growing up. After Ike was assassinated, her parents were blamed for the crime due to their closeness to him, and were wrongfully executed. Lapis would have met the same fate if Thortie had not intervened at the last moment, and because of her life debt to him, she believes that the rest of her life should be spent watching over him.^[15]

Over the course of the game, Lapis does whatever she believes will best serve Thortie, from fighting Garlot in a tourney at his whim to standing beside him in battle against Gulcasa's army in route A; in route C she dismisses his orders entirely and briefly travels alongside Gram Blaze in order to rescue him. It is heavily implied that she has some form of romantic feelings for him.

Lapis is 28 years old and 167 cm tall; she likes honey.^[15]

Fantasinians

Ordene (オルディーン, Orudiin): Voiced by: Tomoyuki Higuchi

The 31st monarch of Fantasinia, son of Belganathos and father to Luciana, Aegina, and Yggdra. Because his death in the fall of Paltina in Yggdra Union (and Karona in Yggdra Unison) is one of the inciting incidents of those games, he only makes a direct appearance in Blaze Union. Ordene is a serious sovereign who is described as having the principles of a knight; he personally leads the army against the kingdom's enemies. However, because of his blind idealism, Ordene is also repeatedly taken advantage of by political schemers.

In route B, Ordene appears trying to stop Aegina's invasion, and fights Gram Blaze until he realizes Aegina's identity and the nature of Alanjame's treachery. He is gravely wounded shielding Yggdra from Alanjame's attacks, and refuses the party's offers of treatment, believing that death is a just payment for his mistakes.

In route C, Ordene is drawn into the conflict when Thortie uses their meeting to try to take the Gran Centurio from him, and must be rescued by Siskier and Jenon. Upon hearing the true circumstances behind the attack, he eventually agrees to allow the party to seal the sword away.

Ordene is in his forties and is 185 cm tall.^[15]

Alanjame (アランゼーム, Aranzeemu): Voiced by: Naomi Kusumi

A Fantasinian courtier in his late forties who serves as one of Ordene's counselors; also the commander in chief of the Blessed Papal Army. Extremely hedonistic and desiring of power, he has been working behind the scenes to reduce the Artwaltz family's authority and rule Fantasinia from the shadows. Fifteen years ago when the twins were born, Alanjame ordered them assassinated for fear that a civil war might occur over which of them should succeed the throne; after discovering they still lived, he continued to send assassins after them.

Alanjame intends to have Ordene killed, then use the sheltered Yggdra as his figurehead while he establishes control. For these reasons, he was one of the supporters of Bly's exile.^[15] He holds the rank of cardinal, and as the leader of a religious organization of assassins, he presents his goals as the will of God, going so far as to proclaim himself a deity, ruled by his own hubris and greed. He uses what Nessiah identifies as a knockoff of the Judgment Zero card which only Hector's test subjects are seen carrying.

He is 163 cm tall and only appears in the B route and one optional battlefield in chapter 3.^[15]

Bandits and Mercenaries

David (デイヴィド, Deivido): Voiced by: Kosuke Takaguchi

A mercenary captain hired by Norn as backup in his battle with Garlot, Siskier, and Jenon. David believes that because life is unfair, it makes the most sense to use unfair methods in order to continue surviving, and that as long as you survive to fight another day, you will always have the chance for victory. He accepted the job to fight Garlot because the pay was good,^[15] and has no real loyalty to Norn himself, even going so far as to assassinate his employer when this is the most beneficial course of action for his own troops. Garlot and company, horrified by David's callousness, swear vengeance and are able to strike back at and kill him with some tactical advice from Medoute.

Later, it is revealed that Cerica, one of David's subordinates, was actually an orphan that he took in and raised. This may suggest that David's relative immorality in battle does not extend to life outside of it. David is in his early thirties, is 172 cm tall, and enjoys black tea.^[15]

Cerica (セリカ, Serika): Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu

A nineteen-year-old girl who works under David's command.^[15] She is bright and cheerful but operates on the same principles as David, and is willing to resort to banditry in order to survive despite those actions being against the law. Cerica refers to herself in the third person and believes very strongly in the tactic of pincer attacks, although she doesn't always execute them very well. She is extremely annoyed with being called an idiot, which both Garlot and Siskier do very often.

After David's death, Cerica swears that she will kill Garlot in revenge, and persistently attacks him over and over again throughout the game despite never being able to win. Empathizing with her powerlessness and anguish over losing someone dear to her, Garlot is unable to kill her, but instead worries about what the cost of their ongoing battle will be to both sides.

Ordinarily, Cerica stops appearing after Chapter 4, but her subplot can be given closure either in an elective mission in Chapter 5 or in route C (the former renders route C inaccessible). During the elective mission, Cerica attacks Gram Blaze on the mountain path to Flarewerk, but loses her footing and falls into the river at the bottom of the ravine. Garlot jumps in to save her without hesitation, and pulls her to the opposite shore in order to treat her injuries. They then discuss Cerica's past and come to an understanding, with Garlot explaining that he can only die and absolve himself of his own killings once he's changed the world, and Cerica agreeing to cease her attacks "for now" as long as he doesn't get himself killed before she can avenge David.

The latter scenario involves Cerica attacking Gram Blaze's headquarters just as they attempt to depart to treat Thortie. Baretreenu harshly criticizes Cerica and accuses her of hypocrisy, as her ongoing conflict with Garlot may cost the lives of her soldiers and will cause those soldiers to feel her own pain if she ever dies. She recommends that Cerica give up her life as a mercenary and start a family in order to deal with her grief and move on.

Cerica was adopted by David after her parents died, and her gratitude for the name he gave her is what causes her to refer to herself in the third person. She is 161 cm tall and likes cherries.^[15] The creators' character notes mention that she grew up wanting to marry David and never grew out of that stage, implying that she harbors an Electra complex towards him.^[15]

Pandra (パンドラ, Pandora): Voiced by: Tsuguo Mogami

The leader of the Resistance Army, and the primary antagonist of chapter 5. While originally a member of the Imperial Army, he was sacked during the demilitarization movement of former emperor Ike and returned to civilian life. However, upon the drafts and heavy taxing of Thortie's reign, Pandra became dissatisfied with the government and began gathering forces for a rebellion. He is very popular with his subordinates and seems to have held high ideals once, but he has gradually fallen from grace and his army has sunk low enough to attack poor towns to steal supplies and attack women, essentially becoming bandits. Pandra himself is extremely self-centered, and uses the majority of stolen supplies for himself; he also tends to run away from battle in order to protect himself rather than staying to support his men.

Pandra first appears in one of the optional missions of chapter 3, in which Velleman takes Gram Blaze to inspect the rebellion to see if they are worth using but eventually decides that they are not. In addition to this, Gram Blaze comes to do battle with Pandra and his forces many times over the course of chapter 5 while attempting to protect the towns he preys upon. Although Pandra and his forces learn from Leon, the relationship between the two is very strained. When Pandra finally sacks Tiera, he uses Leon as bait to distract Gram Blaze while trying to break into the nobles' district; this both earns Garlot's disgust and causes Leon to desert him.

After this incident, Pandra captures Leon when the latter rescues Elena from the Resistance's base and attempts to execute him, only to be foiled when Gram Blaze arrives. When trapped on the edge of a cliff, he chooses to slide down the gorge instead of surrendering, and thereafter vanishes.

He appears one final time in route C, attacking Flarewerk with the last of his forces upon hearing of Thortie's illness, and is finally killed in this battle. The party remarks that this is the only battle where Pandra shows any real seriousness. In all other routes, however, his fate remains unknown. Pandra is 177 cm tall and in his late twenties; he likes meat.^[15]

Other

Baretreenu (ベアトリーヌ, Beatoriinu): Voiced by: Asako Dodo

A priestess in her early forties^[15] who appears late in routes A and C. Baretreenu resides in Lost Aries, doing research on Brongaa at an ancient shrine devoted to worshipping the dragon. She is capable of powerful magic that can temporarily seal the powers of Brongaa's descendants, and desires to develop a more permanent seal. Because of her studies, she is considered one of the experts on Brongaa's power, and for unknown reasons she seems aware of the structure of the Dept. Heaven universe. In actuality, she is Gulcasa's mother; when he was a very small child, she decided to seal his powers for fear of his unusually potent blood. She renamed him "Garlot" in order to complete the seal, and then left the family in order to study Brongaa.

In route A, she is encountered at Brongaa's shrine, where she explains her background to Garlot. At the same time, she reveals that she was aware that he was being abused by his father, but chose not to return home and intervene. She stages a duel to the death with him in order to test his resolve and determine whether he has the right to undo the seal, and chastises him for his reluctance to kill her, saying that because Brongaa's power is cruel and monstrous, he must be willing to throw away his humanity if he truly wants it. Upon the player's victory, Baretreenu breaks the seal willingly by revealing her son's true name, then dies.

In route C, Velleman summons her in order to have her treat Thortie's Brongaa-related illness, and she joins the party. Though Garlot remarks that she seems familiar, Baretreenu does not reveal their relationship. With Nessiah's help, she manages to cure Thortie, and later accuses him of placing a new curse of control on the Emperor, which pressures him into turning on Gram Blaze. Although her role in this route is otherwise small, Baretreenu also produces a tonic that is strong enough to break Nessiah's control over Thortie and prevent him from trying it again.

She is 162 cm tall.^[15]

Norn (ノルン, Norun): Voiced by: Naomi Kusumi

A merchant and nobleman of Tiera, around fifty years of age. He is a minor villain who has been cheating the residents of Tiera's poor district out of their money via loan sharking; he also has connections to the slave trade. Norn is the first named character to appear in Blaze Union, and is attempting to kidnap Emilia in order to sell her as a slave when Garlot and Siskier arrive to stop him. According to Garlot, the Blaze band has been following Norn's movements closely for half a year, but has not had the opportunity to attack him until now; using a strategy made by Jenon, they plan to ransom him for the return of all the money and goods he appropriated, then force him to confess his crimes in writing and swear to reform. However, Norn is sniped by David's soldiers so that they will not have to sacrifice their pay, which came from that money. This makes Norn the first named character to die.

According to the creators' comments, Norn was created as an archetypal figure to illustrate the nature of corruption in Tiera and the gulf separating the rich and poor. He is 162 cm tall.^[15]
