List of reptiles of Great Britain

Adder

Ten or eleven species of reptiles occur in Great Britain: three snakes and three lizards, which were established at the time of the last ice age. Additionally, Britain has a number of introduced species which have become naturalized in their new environments.

Sea turtles have been recorded as coastal vagrants and the red-eared terrapin occurs as an introduced species.

Snakes

• Adder Vipera berus
• Grass snake Natrix natrix
• Smooth snake Coronella austriaca

Lizards

• Slow-worm Anguis fragilis
• Common or Viviparous lizard Zootoca vivipara
• Sand lizard Lacerta agilis

Turtles

• Leatherback sea turtle Dermochelys coriacea. Foraging^[1]
• Loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta. Vagrant^[2]
• Green sea turtle Chelonia mydas. Vagrant.^[3]
• Hawksbill sea turtle Eretmochelys imbricata. Vagrant.^[3]
• Kemp's ridley sea turtle Lepidochelys kempii. Vagrant.^[3]

Introduced species

• Red-eared terrapin^[4] Trachemys scripta elegans. (Introduced species).^[5] Rare but increasing due to pet release.^[4]
• European pond turtle Emys orbicularis.
• Western green lizard L. bilineata.
• Common wall lizard Podarcis muralis.
• Aesculapian snake Zamenis longissimus.
