- Cheonggyecheon was formerly the route for a major elevated highway. The highway was completed in 1976 to address the traffic as a result of large influx of people into the city after the Korean War. The pavement was removed in 2005, leaving two ramp stubs at the eastern end.
- The Sky Garden Highway was built in the 1970s, and served as the crucial trading connection in Seoul. However, it was closed to traffic in 2006, due to it failing inspections. There are now plans for it to be converted into a pedestrian walkway.
