Marcelo Cerqueira was born in the state of Bahia, Brazil. He is a historian and the president of Grupo Gay da Bahia, the oldest functioning gay rights organization in Brazil. Grupo Gay da Bahia was established by anthropologist, researcher, professor and LGBT activist Luiz Mott.
