Marco Secchi is an Italian photographer.[1][2] He works for Getty Images,[3] worked for Corbis[4] and specializes in political and social events. Secchi is one of the founding members of the alternative photography collective, #Awakening. He is also a teacher offering photography workshops or photowalks of locations like Scotland, England, Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy.[5][6][7][8]

Career

Secchi is a native of Venice, Italy, although he has lived most of his youth in Milan, moving later to France, Switzerland, Scotland, The Isle of Scalpay and since many years lives in London.[3][9] He began his career as a photographer in 1980 and was inspired to do so by other photographers like Tullio Farabola, Gianni Berengo Gardin and Elliott Erwitt.[1] Over the course of his career, he has taken photographs of prominent events and people, including political figures like Pope Francis,[10] sportspeople like LeBron James[11] and Mike Tyson,[12] celebrities like George Clooney,[4] and royalty like Queen Elizabeth II.[1] He has also covered worldwide events like the Costa Concordia disaster,[13] the Bosnian War,[14] and the recent Syrian refugee migration through the Balkans.[3][5] He is an editorial photographer for Getty Images.[3][4]

Secchi is one of the founding members of the alternative photography collective, #Awakening.[15][16][17] The group seeks to create social change through photographic art.[18][19][20][21] Secchi is also a photography teacher and offers photography workshops in a variety of places throughout Europe. He works primarily with Leica cameras.[2][5][6][20] Additionally, he has compiled few books. One is a book of photographs called The Venice Carnival[22] and the other is a French language guide called Le grand guide de Venise.[23] Secchi's photographs have appeared in many publications including The Rough Guide to the Italian Lakes,[24] Lonely Planet Venice & the Veneto,[25] and Women Writers who Changed the World.[26]
