Mardi Gras Massacre is a 1978 horror film written and directed by Jack Weis. It is a semi-remake of the 1963 film Blood Feast.
Plot
In New Orleans, a serial killer wearing a ritual mask seeks out the evilest prostitutes he can find. He then takes them to room where he ties them up and stabs a hand and cuts a foot, and then cuts out their hearts to sacrifice to an ancient Aztec goddess. He sacrifices one by one, and then he tries three at a time on the day of Mardi Gras. The detective on the case eventually comes upon a delivery man who remembers seeing the ring described by witnesses. The delivery man also recalls the address and apartment number because of the large tip left by the killer. The police raid the apartment and save the three women, but the killer escapes on foot, finds a car, and begins a high-speed chase that ends in the Gulf of Mexico. When they pull the car from the Gulf, they find the ritual mask... but the killer is gone.
Release
The film was on the UK Government's list of Video Nasties in the 1980s and has not been resubmitted to the BBFC for a certificate since.
