Mathematics in Education And Industry (MEI) is an independent A-Level, AS-Level, and GCSE Mathematics education and assessment body in the United Kingdom.
History
It was founded in 1963. It received a grant from the Schools & Industry Committee of the Mathematical Association. In 1965 it produced its first exam - Additional Mathematics, then produced an A level course two years later. Their A level exams were the first to include probability.
It was incorporated as a company on 18 October 1996.
Structure
Although independent, MEI works in partnership with many organisations, including the Government. MEI is a registered charity (No 1058911) with a board of directors, and a small professional staff.[1]
Purpose
MEI's aims include emphasising the excitement of Mathematics and drawing attention to the connections within mathematics and between mathematics and the rest of the world.
