Metavari is an American electronic music group composed of Nathaniel David Utesch, Kyle Landon Steury, Tyler Hesse Brinneman and Andrew David McComas. They are based in Fort Wayne, IN. They are currently signed to Friend of Mine Records in Japan and release music in the United States under their own label, Vital Shores Electronic Music Company.[1]
History
Metavari formed in the Fall of 2006 including members, Nathaniel David Utesch, Tyler Hesse Brinneman, Andrew David McComas, Tommy Cutter and Simon Lesser. In 2007, they scored original music for a short film by directors Wes Kandel and Benjamin Phenicie called, A Casualty of the Promiseland.[2] Metavari self-released their debut EP, Ambling EP, in 2008.
In 2008, Metavari performed remixes and original arrangements to the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album to a near sold out audience at Fort Wayne's Embassy Theatre.[3]
In the Fall of 2009, Metavari's line-up changed to a three-piece consisting of members Utesch, Brinneman and McComas.[4] Metavari also signed to Crossroads of America Records in the US, Friend of Mine Records, Japan and released their debut full-length release on these labels this year.[5][6]
March 2010, Metavari showcased at the Austin, TX music conference and festival, South by Southwest, and released an experimental EP on vinyl only called Studies Vol 1: Loosen the Bands on Crossroads of America Records.[7]
August 2010, Metavari added fourth member, Kyle Landon Steury, to their current line-up.[8]
March 2012, Metavari announced they would be raising money to complete their sophomore record, Moonless. Moonless would be an entirely electronic album, departing from Metavari's previous post-rock-meets-electronic sound.[9] Moonless is due out February 2015 on Vital Shores.[10]
