Metroparks of the Toledo Area
The Metroparks of the Toledo Area are a series of twelve parks in the Toledo, Ohio area.[1]
Parks
The Metroparks include:[1]
- Bend View Metropark
- Blue Creek Conservation Area
- Fallen Timbers Battlefield
- Farnsworth Metropark
- Oak Openings Preserve Metropark
- Pearson's Metropark
- Providence Metropark
- Secor Metropark
- Toledo Botanical Garden
- Side Cut Metropark
- Swan Creek Preserve Metropark
- Wildwood Preserve Metropark
Plants
The parks currently contain nearly a third of the rare plant species in Ohio.[2] While the mission and programming relating to the care and education of nature, the parks also routinely offer programs relating to state history and area culture.
Trails
In addition to these parks, the Metroparks encompass three bicycle trails:[3]
- University/Parks Trail
- Wabash Cannonball Trail - North Fork
- Wabash Cannonball Trail - South Fork
Geography
The Metroparks consist of over 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) of land, which span a wide variety of land types. They also include over 4,000 acres (1,600 hectares) of the Oak Openings Region of Ohio, an area located along what used to be the western edge of Lake Erie.
