Michaelle C. Solages represents the 22nd district in the New York State Assembly since 2013 including the areas of Elmont, North Valley Stream, Valley Stream, South Valley Stream, North Woodmere, Floral Park, South Floral Park, Bellerose Terrace, Stewart Manor, and parts of Franklin Square.[3]
Education and work experience
In 2007, Michaelle Solages graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Hofstra University's School of Education, Health, and Human Services. She remained at Hofstra after graduation and worked as a supervisor of access services at Hofstra's Axinn Library, modernizing library resources. Before her election to the New York State Assembly in 2012, Michaelle Solages volunteered as a legislative aide and was an organizer for civic and non-profit organizations.[4]
New York State Assembly
Michaelle Solages was nominated in May 2012 by the Democratic Party to run for the newly created 22nd Assembly District. On September 13, 2012, she won over eighty percent of the vote in the Democratic primary.[5] In the general election on November 6, 2012, Michaelle Solages defeated the Republican candidate Sean Wright.[6] Solanges became the first person of Haitian descent to be elected to the New York State assembly.[7]
Personal life
Michaelle Solages resides in Elmont, NY. She is the sister of Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages.[8]
