Millennial Media is an advertising company that places display ads on mobile devices.

On September 3, 2015, AOL agreed to buy Millennial Media for US$238 million .[1] On October 23, 2015, AOL completed the acquisition.[2]

The company is based in Baltimore, with offices in Boston, London, Singapore, New York City and San Francisco.

History

Millennial Media was founded in May 2006 by Paul Palmieri and Chris Brandenburg.[3][4] On January 27, 2014, Palmieri stepped down from his position and was replaced by Michael Barrett.[5]

Millennial Media has acquired several companies, including TapMetrics in 2010,[6] Condaptive in 2011,[7] Jumptap in 2013,[8] and Nexage in 2014.

Beginning in March 2009, Millennial Media has provided regular research reports.[9][10][11] Millennial Media has won several awards.[12][13][14][15][16]

Financials

Millennial Media received $64.8M in funding between 2007 and 2011.[17][18][19]

In January 2012, Millennial Media filed with the SEC for an initial public offering of its common stock,[20] and the company was first listed in March 2012.[20]

When Millennial Media went public, it was noted that "The company has never been profitable since its inception in 2006, and warns that it may not ever be."[21] In the second quarter of 2014, Millennial Media's stock lost more than one-fourth of its value, finishing the quarter in the bottom 2% of NYSE-listed stocks.[22] In July, 2014, several analysts downgraded their ratings of the company's stock.[23][24][25] In 2014, former Yahoo and Google executive Michael Barrett was appointed Millennial Media's new CEO.[26]
