Minamoto no Yoshitaka

Minamoto no Yoshitaka (1172-1183) was the eldest son of Minamoto no Yoshinaka with his wife, Otome, sister of Imai Kanehira.

At 10 years of age he become Minamoto no Yoritomo's hostage because Minamoto no Yoritomo wanted Yoshinaka to decide between Minamoto no Yoshiie or Yoshitaka. Yoshinaka decided to send his son Yoshitaka to Kamakura. Yoshitaka was raised by Yoritomo's wife Hojo Masako and married to Yoritomo and Masako's eldest daughter, O-hime. After Yoshinaka died, Yoritomo decided to kill Yoshitaka but the plan was leaked by Hojo Masako and Yoshitaka run away by wearing woman's dress. Soldiers were sent to kill Yoshinaka and the pursuit ended in Musashi province where Yoshitaka was killed.

After his death, his wife, O-hime become very sad and her mother, Hojo Masako, executed the soldiers who killed her son-in-law. After the death of her husband, O-hime continued grieving and later died at 20 years of age.
