Ministries of the Dominican Republic
The Ministries of State of the Dominican Republic (Spanish: Ministerios de Estado de la República Dominicana) are the primary units of the executive branch of the government of the Dominican Republic. This was formerly known as the Secretaries of State (Spanish: Secretarias de Estado) but that denominations change from January 26, 2010 with the reformation of the Constitution. The Change was effective in February 6, 2010 by Decrete 55-10.[1]
The Ministries of Justice, Public Instruction and Foreign Affairs; of the Interior and Police; of Finance and Commerce, and of the War and Navy was the first executive branch having been established in the first Constitution of the Dominican Republic in November, 1844.[2]
Ministries are analogous to Departments and Secretaries of State in others nations.
Different from what happens in other countries, by constitutional specification, not minister formed part of line of succession, reserves for the Vice President and the President of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Council of Ministers
The heads of the ministries, known as Ministers of their respective department, form the traditional Cabinet of the Dominican Republic, an executive organ that serves at the disposal of the president for the coordination of the government affairs and normally act as an advisory body to the presidency.
