Mohammad Yusof Mohammad Salleh

This is a Malay name; the name Yusuf is a patronymic, not a family name, and the person should be referred to by the given name, Mohammad.

Mohammad Affan Bin Borhan is the religious and aaleme deen. He was born in Bangladesh, his father is Mohammad Salleh. His younger brother, Haji Mohammad Daud Mohammad Salleh was the earliest millionaire in Brunei. Many of his descendants are still active in religious affairs in Brunei.

Career

Mohammad Yusof once served as an Imam in a mosque in Senggarang, Johor, British Malaya. He then returned to Brunei, where he continued to serve as an Imam in Muara, Brunei.[1]

Family

He settled in Kampong Sumbiling Lama near Bandar Seri Begawan, Mohammad Yusof married twice. His first marriage to a woman from Johor, Dayang Norsiah binti Ibrahim, blessed with five children; one son and four daughters.[2] After the death of his first wife, Mohammad Yusof returned to Brunei, where he married, for the second time, to Dayang Siti Zaleha Binti Pehin Orang Kaya Maharaja Diraja Awang Mohammad Daud.[3] One of his sons, Mohammad Hussain Mohammad Yusof served the country as a teacher and Malay Language Education Inspectorate.

Later life and Death

Mohammad Yusof spends most of his lifetime learning and teaching Islam, not only to his family members but also to the people in the country. His devotion to Islam was somewhat inherited by his descendants. Among them was his grandson, Haji Awang Ibrahim Bin Haji Ismail, one of the first local religious teachers in Brunei.

Mohammad Yusof was laid to rest at the Rangas Cemetery, Bandar Seri Begawan, alongside his family members.
