Nahim Razzaq (Bengali: নাহিম রাজ্জাক, born 7 February 1981). He is a member of the Bangladesh Awami League Party & is two times Member of Parliament. He is currently a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Youth & Sports from his ancestral area of Sariatpur-3. He received the Junior Chamber International- Top 10 Outstanding Youth Person (TOYP)[1] award in 2015 in Bangladesh.
Education
Nahim started his academic life in Government Laboratory High School, Dhaka. But later he went abroad to receive his 'O – level' from St. Paul School in Darjeeling, India & 'A- Level' from Mayo College in Ajmer, India. He completed his 'BA Honors' degree (Double Majors) on Business & Marketing from Middlesex University in London, UK. He received his 'Post Graduate Diploma' on Marketing from Kingston University in Surrey, UK.
Political career
After his academic life, Nahim started working in the field of Marketing in United Kingdom. But in the terrible event of 21 August 2004, his Father Abdur Razzaq (politician) was severely injured. After the incident he resigned from his job in UK, came back to Bangladesh & got involved in political activities. After 3 years of active political life Nahim took responsibility as chief coordinator at the 2008, 9th National General Election for his father with competence. He took responsibility of both political as well as development of Sariatpur district when his father became ill due to the serious injuries incurred from the 21st August incident. After the demise of his father on 23 December 2011, Nahim received nomination from Bangladesh Awami League and won in the Bi-election and became Member of Parliament (MP) for the first time. On 5 January 2014, 10th National General Election, Nahim got elected for the second time[2] becoming one of the very few member of parliaments to be elected twice under the age of 35 years Being one of the youngest legislature, Nahim believes the youth population of Bangladesh needs to be integrated into the mainstream politics and development hence formed the only National Youth Platform names Young Bangla,[3] created to facilitate the youth of this generation into policy formation. He is also involved with youth development programs, being member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Youth and Sports[4] since 2014. He is engaged heavily on education programmes acting as chairman of over 10 College and Secondary Schools in Sariatpur District. As a part of youth facilitation, Nahim helped to form E-commerce Association of Bangladesh in 2015, hence at present acting as one of the advisors of the association and promoting the E-commerce in Bangladesh and worldwide.[5] One of the talked about topic of this century is Climate Change. Nahim is involved with climate change as the convener of Climate Parliament,[6] Bangladesh Steering Committee, a charitable organization involved in advocating amongst legislatures and stake holders in Bangladesh and around the world focusing on reduction of Fossil fuel usage and shifting the funds in promoting renewable energy.
Nahim's area of interests are in youth development programs, raising awareness in the climate change aspects, along with infra-structure/grass root development. He is an advocate of sports program development and takes keen interest in maintaining regional a youth leader's network.
