Nam Tae-hyun (Hangul: 남태현), known as Taehyun, is a South Korean singer. He is a former member of the boy group Winner, formed in 2013 by YG Entertainment through the survival show WIN: Who Is Next. He has appeared in multiple Korean drama series and been involved in the production and lyrics of some of Winner's tracks.
Life and career
Pre-Debut
Prior to his debut as a member of Winner, Taehyun performed as a backup dancer for the YG Family Concert 2011.[2]
WIN: Who Is Next & Debut as WINNER
In 2013, he was introduced as a trainee competing in the reality-survival program WIN: Who Is Next as part of "Team A", competing against another trainee team, Team B, in order to debut as part of the first YG Entertainment boy group in eight years, since the debut of Big Bang. At the program's conclusion, Team A won the competition through three rounds of public voting and debuted as Winner.[3]
In 2015, while Winner was on hiatus, Taehyun made his acting debut in the web drama Midnight Girl. The same year, he played a supporting role in the drama Late Night Restaurant.
2016 - Present
In 2016, he appeared in tvN's Actor School, and released the 'warm-up' single "Pricked (사랑가시)" in collaboration with Mino. The single charted at #2 on MelOn and #1 on iTunes in nine countries including Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei.[4]
On October 12, YG announced that Nam Tae Hyun would be halting activities and receiving treatment for mental health issues that had been present since his trainee days, but had then recently worsened. In result, WINNER's comeback, was delayed indefinitely.[5][6]
On November 25, YG announced Nam Tae Hyun's withdrawal from WINNER. His exclusive contract with YG Entertainment was also cancelled.[7] A day later, he posted a handwritten letter on his personal Instagram account that contained his apology and thanks to fans.[8][9]
