Nehale Senior Secondary School is a public school[1] in Onayena, Oshikoto Region, Namibia. Established in 1976, it is the second oldest school in the region but also in the entire former Ovamboland, its products can now be found in both the public and private sectors, named after the legendary fighter Nehale Mpingana, the school is located at Onayena, approximately 20 kilometres east of Ondangwa.[2]
It has a history of exceptional performance with the highest pass rate in the region and the second best preferred school in the region after Oshigambo High School. Nehale Secondary School is also a cluster centre to the schools in Onayena. It is part of Onathinge Cluster. The school principal is Elifas Iimene.
Current State
The school was established during the colonial era and no major renovations since then, although it has many building structures, they appear to be falling apart putting human lives in danger. The school obtains most of its funding from the government and most often not enough to cover all the school expenses, it is currently in a sorry state of total dilapidation; old facilities on the verge of collapse, a sewerage system that is not functioning properly, lack of accommodation for teachers, inadequate laboratory facilities and the lack of hall prove to be major challenges at the school.[3]
The state of affair at the school has forced the school management to scurry around for possible remedies to the scenario. With blessings from the school board, management and the community around the school, an idea for the hosting of a reunion to raise funds for the renovation of their collapsing buildings was born.
Notable Alumni
The school has produced many young and old professionals among them a number of nurses, prominent politicians, lawyers, engineers, journalists, musicians, sport personalities and many others holding critical positions and making a valuable contribution to the country’s development and Vision 2030.
