Neidlingen is a municipality in the district of Esslingen, in Baden-Württemberg, in southern Germany. It is overlooked by Reussenstein Castle.
Geography
Location
Neidlingen lies in the central northern foothills of the Swabian Jura in the upper valley of the Lindach river, east of Randecker Maar (a former volcanic vent). The nearest town is Weilheim an der Teck. Neidlingen is part of the Swabian Alps Biosphere reserve. Nearby are four castles: Reußenstein, Erkenberg, Windeck and Heimenstein.[2]

History
The place name originates from the family name Nidilo or Neidlinger. The settlement was founded around the year 400 by the Alemanni. In the year 797, Neidlingen was mentioned for the first time, in a document of the Lorsch Codex.

- More than 20,000 cherry trees grow on the fertile and favorable climatic slopes of the Alb.
- Am Seebach in Neidlingen is one of the last manufacturing stone mill of Germany. Here balls are made from the rocks around. [4]
Buildings
The landmark of Neidlingen is the Reussenstein castle. The castle, which was built in the late 13th century, was inhabited until the 16th century and then fell apart.
- The historic parish barn in place has been preserved in the 1970s from demolition and now serves as a community center.
- The Protestant parish church was in 1746 rebuilt in the castle garden.
- The Neidlinger Wasserfall (waterfalls) is the origin of the Lindach.
Sports
Neidlingen is also known as flying area for paragliders. The launch site is located on a western slope east above Neidlingen (270 meters height difference).
The Turnverein 1910 Neidlingen operates the sports of football, athletics, winter sports and inline skating and has indicated that almost half of the population are members. [5]

- Konrad Widerholt (* 1598 in Ziegenhain near Treysa; † 1667 in Kirchheim unter Teck), Württemberg commander, received in 1650 the rule over Neidlingen
