The New City Initiative NCI is an independent think tank concerned with issues surrounding financial reform, many of which have damaged the public perception of the industry.[1]
It was founded in 2010 by Daniel Pinto and Derek Laud, who became its first Executive Director in 2010 [Stanhope Capital] and extended its membership in 2011 to include non-UK members. Its membership now includes over forty independent asset management firms in the City and across Europe, managing approximately £350 billion. NCI speaks for owner-managed firms concerned with the interests of clients and investors and is keen to restore public trust in this sector.[2]
The NCI aims to raise awareness of the contribution made by small entrepreneurial firms make to the economy and society as a whole. It publishes quarterly papers and contributes evidence to relevant political and regulatory commissions. It has recently argued that the bonus cap for bankers should only apply to banks that were bailed out by taxpayers and should not apply to independent fund managers.[3][4]
