New Palin is a hillstation town located in the Kra Dadi district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the largest town in the district. It is inhabited by Nyishi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located at Latitude 28.15285, Longitude 94.12288. It has a population of 5816 according to 2001 census.

Geography

New Palin is located at 27°04′26″N 93°36′52″E / 27.0738°N 93.6145°E / 27.0738; 93.6145.[1] It has an average elevation of 1080 metres (3540 feet).

Climate

Palin falls within 15' to 20' temperature zone; often the temperature falls to 5–7 °C in winter. The region is very cold during winter and very hot during summer. Rainfall is very high due to very hilly and high geographical terrain. Most of time it is covered by clouds.The area is windy in nature.

Culture

Palin and its adjoining areas are mainly populated by people of the Nyishi tribe.

Holy Rosary church: Consecrated by the Bishop of Itanagar, this Christian catholic church reflects the extensive Christian influence and provides good views of Palin and the surrounding countryside.[2]

Places of interest

Holy Rosary Catholic Church[3] is one of the largest Catholic Churches in the state.[4][5] It is located at a hilltop in the town.

Palin river one of the tributaries of River Subansiri flows through this town. The river is ideal for river rafting, fishing and for picnics.

From here tourist places like Ziro, Parshuram Kund(in Lohit), Malinithan (in Siang), Bhishmak Nagar (in Dibang Valley) are also easily accessible by roads.

Education

Govt Hr. Sec. School Palin is situated in beautiful town of Palin in Kurung Kumey district, which is one of the 16 districts of the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The name of the district is derived from the Kurung and the Kamey, two rivers which flow through this district. Arunachal Pradesh means "land of the dawn-lit mountains" in Sanskrit. It is also known as "land of the rising sun" in reference to its position as the easternmost state of India is a community of elite students and staff based on campus in hills of Palin. It has one of the best teaching quality ratings in the Arunachal and a strong record, factors which contribute to its reputation as a leading school.

Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan managed by the Donyi Polo Mission, is a co-educational residential senior secondary school in New Palin of Arunachal Pradesh. It strives to provide quality education.Affiliated to the CBSE, The Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan has classes from LKG to XII . English is the medium of instruction and there is a group of highly qualified teachers to assist the students. Special coaching is given for Medical and Engineering entrance exams. Besides, co-curricular activities are organized to develop the talent of the students.The school, spread over 100 acres of land, is surrounded by lush green hills. Festivals

Nyokum, an agricultural festival of the Nyishis, is the main festival celebrated in the town. Beside Nyokum, people also celebrate Christmas, Diwali,Chhath and Dusherra.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[6] Palin has a population of 5816. The Nyishis are the aborigines of the area.

Communication

Palin is situated at mid-northern part of Arunachal Pradesh. The District Highway connect Palin to the other part of Arunachal pradesh and India. Regular Bus and Tata sumo services are available form Naharlagun, Itanagar and Ziro.
