Newport Transport,[1] known as Newport Bus, is the main provider of bus services in the city of Newport, Wales. Formerly a Newport City Council department, it became an entity in 1986, following the Transport Act 1985. Newport City Council retains ownership, which makes it one of the few remaining municipal bus companies.

Services

In the summer months, Newport Transport also operate the red-liveried open-top bus tour of the city under the City Sightseeing branding using a converted Alexander bodied Scania N113DRB double decker.

Livery

The original pre-war livery of maroon was changed to green and cream in the 1940s and remained the same until August 2009. The current livery is dark green and white with lime green and grey logos at the rear of the vehicles although there are a few exceptions. Newport bus runs seven high-quality large-capacity school coaches branded as "Skool Coach" that are painted in all-over yellow, mimicking those used in North America.

Livery changed in 1937 with the demise of the trams. The replacement buses; 14 Leyland TS8 single deckers numbers 52 to 65, and 16 Leyland TD5 double deckers numbers 66 to 85 were delivered in the new green and cream livery introduced by the manager Mr N.J.Young. In my copy of the book "Trams and Buses of Newport 1845 to 1981" by D B Thomas and E A Thomas, there is a photo (adj page 57) of TS8 52 with the [2]caption, "This was the first bus to carry the green and cream livery".
